Why do so many need to give it a personality and supernatural powers, especially when there is absolutely no evidence to back up those powers.

Missing Link, small steps.... if you prefer lets just call it background radiation, the resonant vibrations from the big bang.

That is a distinct possibility and I do not deny that - I wonder would you refer to it as divine or just energy?

I call this root energy God.... or the divine
simply because it is a word we understand as a creator
but yes indeedy , I believe in a root energy
that we all came from , are all part of and all return to
you are asking sybil about how this can be called divine
i dont believe this energy is without consciousness
I dont believe it is a hands on energy in the same way as a biblical God
but I do believe that it has a drive , a task force , a work force that help set the natural laws in place
however
this is only a belief
but a belief I hold due to surrounding evidence I have
I cannot prove God ( the energy )

Throughout the history of mankind people have had personal interactions with what you describe as a root energy. I understand that atheists don't accept the reality of those interactions and that science neither accepts nor denies its existence. It is possible as some atheists have suggested on this forum that throughout history people have suffered delusions all with the same content. It is also possible that the root energy has a personality and has in fact chosen to be in relationship with us. Many of us chose to respond to that relationship.
Whether or not science can prove it (there are many things science can't prove) or whether or not atheists accept it, there are many of us who have had a personal relationship with God. For us (throughout mankinds history) it would dishonor that God to call him a root energy.

Western religions require something tangible to understand it. (No this is not a flame towards Xians). You have a wave of energy which creates, destroys, molds, etc.. the Western mind has great difficulty in believing it just IS, they have to give it a name and an idea behind it in order to accept it.
Mainly I have found that it is a rather close minded inability to accept things as they are and instead have to give it a 'personality' as you have put it.
If people would open themselves up to viewing things in a broader spectrum, I feel a lot more undertanding of things could be produced and therefore a lot more acceptance of other people's ideas and beliefs.

Star Wars makes a great movie, it really does, and I like saying "May the force be with you" too.
But saying that there is an energy force without motivation, personality, or will is pretty much like saying that yeah, there sort of is a God, but he's a vegetable.
Forgive me for not being willing to subscribe to such a theology.

1) There must be a G-d in order tot exist morality. A "root energy" does not provide any moral compass.
2) The individuals with spiritual awareness do have a personal relationship with the Almighty. You cannot have a personal relationship with an impersonal "energy."

I suppose there could be. Personally, I just think God has everything I have and more, so that would include -- and go beyond -- such things as awareness, personality, etc.

You could be right. I find it hard to give Him a personality as well.
