Yogurt is a great substitute for ice cream and, obviously, is a healthier option. If you don't have yogurt available or want to avoid dairy, I would add a little fruit juice as the base (orange juice would go great with bananas).

Yes you can make a smoothie without ice cream. I always make my smoothies with plain fat-free or low-fat yogurt. Add a splash of milk if the consistency is not to your liking. But, it tastes really good and it's good for you too since you'll be eliminating all the fat and calories from the ice cream.
Bananas go well with strawberries & vanilla. Absolutely delicious...try it and you'll be speechless.

If you use ice cream, it's called a milkshake!
Bananas are essential IMO for a smooth texture. Strawberries, blueberries, mango, pineapple juice, orange juice... all go well w/ bananas.
Freeze your bananas so you dont' have to use as much ice. I also buy frozen, unsweetened fruit in bags just for smoothies!

Use yogurt and a little ice with your fruits. Strawberry goes well with banana.
8 ounces crushed ice
1 ounce apple juice
4 strawberries
1/2 banana
11 ounces plain nonfat frozen yogurt
Directions: Blend for 15 -20 seconds.

Real smoothies aren't made with ice cream, they're made with yogurt or milk (or soy milk). I don't personally like bananas, but they go well with strawberries, peaches, pretty much most fruit.

If you like creamy smoothies you can use yogurt or fro yo. Sometimes just ice and a juice base also is very tasty

Absolutely! Strawberries would be great with bananas. Add ice to the blender, and some lemon-lime soda if you have it(Sprite/7up/Sierra Mist).

i use soymilk and strawberries.... nice fresh bananas and strawberries with no added sugar.... then when i get them blended together...i may or may not add ice .... ice makes for a thicker smoothie....and it gives it a different texture too....
