The reason for 9/11 was because we supplied arms to Israel to fight against the a few Arab nations. We also were always in the Middle East causing some sort of problems. The general public was probably unaware, but America was not.

Could be the way that Muslims invaded Turkey and destroyed the remnants of the Byzantine Empire and then threatened to invade Europe, bringing a hostile religion with them. Or the way the West responded by invading the Middle East to take back Jerusalem in the Crusades. Or it could be the way that the Middle East has all the oil and the West doesn't like being dependent on anyone. Or it could be the terrorist attacks that have *raged* since the United Nations re-established Israel by thoughtlessly taking land away from the resident Muslims who were busy fighting their neighbors so much that we didn't think they'd notice. Of course, it's human nature to hate those who hate you. But that, of course, creates a nasty little cycle.

I was pretty much ignorant of the fact that Islam was as big of a religion as it is. I thought there were maybe a few million of followers, all in the Middle East. It wasn't until about 4 years ago that I realized that Islam had over a billion followers, spread out across the world.

Americans generally ignored Muslims before 9/11 because the core of our culture is tolerance of those with different beliefs. However, Muslims have hated Americans since long before 2001. It pretty much goes back to our support of Israel just after WWII, and their hatred of the west goes much further back that that.
Let us not forget that Muslim extremists declared war on the US during the Clinton administration. However, instead of dealing with the problem he ignored it in favor of doing his intern in the oval office, thus ultimately leaving his successor with the mess he is dealing with now.

No I didn't and never have hated anyone. But, I will be honest to say that when I saw someone looking like a Muslim, or 'terrorist', (Dark skin, long robes, turbins, etc.), I was scared of them. And made me wonder who and why they were shopping in the malls, and Walmart, etc.
It was my problem then, and now I don't feel this way. I actually feel bad that I thought that way.
