That is such a bogus statement if you take it at face value.
If you have a village of starving people and use one million dollars to make sure those people were fed for the next year, that money will have made them and you as the donor pretty happy.
If you have a loved one who is very sick and in need of emergency medical care, that money will make you both pretty happy when used to get them well.
If you are facing bankruptcy, foreclosure, or a nasty situation such as trying to leave an abusive spouse, having lots of money at the right time would make you very happy.
Yes, yes, I know, happiness is a feeling you can only create for yourself on the inside which is the same with many emotions, but many of these emotions are also leaning towards external conditions.
Let’s say someone is punching you and won’t stop. According to these gurus, the feeling you have about the situation is up to you. You could choose to be happy and forgiving or you could choose to be angry and wanting revenge. I dare anyone to tell me they would sit there and smile while some bully is beating them to within an inch of their lives.
Yes, to some degree you do have control over how you feel about things and having money does not necessarily mean you will feel any happier or sadder. It just means you have money on top of how you feel. If your sadness is due to the lack of very desperately needed money, then having a wad of cash in your hands is bound to take some of that sadness away so you can deal with the problem that needed the money.

money vs. true happiness? Well first of all if one thinks that money is the root of all things great and wonderful, they are just fooling their selves. And as for happiness, if you are surrounded by people who truely love and care about you, then you cannot put a price on that. All the $$ in the world won't help you if you do not have certain things of your own.. such as : food, shelter, clothing, the love of a spouse, or g/f or b/f.... and from that comes an education, a job, success, which you build on from that stand-point. I don't think being rich brings true happiness !! I mean, I have a college degree, well actually 3 of them, and I'm retired now, but I have worked very hard over the years, and we put our youngest thru college. It wasn't always easy, and the best things in life seldom are. If life was meant to be easy and you get things just handed to ya, then NO your not going to end up being happy. I'm married to my best friend for just over 33 years, we shared a lot, he loves me, and I love him. YOu can't buy that, heck you can't put a price tag on that. AND when you do find that special love, that long lasting love, that forever and ever love..... that is what makes you rich........... Nothing else even comes close..... especially money and wealth. We may not have a lot, but what we have is paid for, and we own our home, and we travel some, and see our grand kids, and great grand son, and again you can't put a dollar amount on that........ While its true ya do need money to fix your broken down Air Conditioner, or the clutch which is going out of your truck, or that recent raise in your auto insurance,,,,, that's not what this is about......its about true happiness !!!! My answer is NO. True happiness comes from within.... Go with your gut feelings.....and your conscience. You'll be happy .... Trust me.

Money can't bring "true" happiness. I'm sure you have heard of or seen rich people with tons of problems (Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Lindsey Lohan, Elizabeth Taylor, I could go on...) True happiness comes from a peace within ones self that no amount of money could ever buy. It can be relatively easy to achieve. I personally found peace through my religious beliefs. If there was no money around, people would find a way to put value on things to bring themselves happiness. They may trade shells instead or something, but as a human being we WILL put a value on everything.

I know a guy who is a multi-millonaire, however if you passed him on the street you would think he was a homeless drunk!
He is a happy individual, though it is not because of the money, he just lives life the way he wants to and is not bothered if other people have a problem with that!

Almost of the answers falls to NO but isn't it every one's struggling for money?
Money can bring us happiness but not all problems will go away. Money itself is a problem as it gives you worry how to keep it and not be stolen.

Nope
It can bring more worries. Although you don't have to worry about debt etc it can attract the wrong sort of people around you plus you have to worry about how to keep it
Poor people have this misconception about money but life's more simpler & less stressful without a vast amount of it. Trust me I know!
How many celebrities look really happy?

No. You just have different issues. I'm quite sure Paris Hilton's parents aren't too thrilled with a child that's famous for a porno video, going to jail, and some show that got cancelled b/c she couldn't get along with her co-star. That's not even counting Al Gore's kid that has an arrest record. I can go on and on.

It depends what happiness is to you, but it could help you to get things that contribute to happiness.
Someone might be happy getting an expensive sports car, or having expensive meals every night. Someone might be happy having enough money to retire.
But, as someone once wisely said, "money can't buy me love"
