It's a marketing ploy, and has no meaning at all. Your confusion about it means you see through that.

First, it implies that there are two kinds of people in this world, Cosmo readers and non-Cosmo readers. I can assure you that there are far more ways to categorize people than that.

Second, it doesn't really tell you which ones are the "wrong" kind anyway.

Cosmopolitan is a magazine for women, sometimes referred to as "Cosmo", which has been published for more than a century. It began as a family magazine, launched in 1886 by Schlicht & Field as The Cosmopolitan.

Paul Schlicht told his first-issue readers that his publication was a "first-class family magazine", adding, "There will be a department devoted exclusively to the interests of women, with articles on fashions, on household decoration, on cooking, and the care and management of children, etc., also a department for the younger members of the family."

Put simply it is an ad gimmick!

In these days of status symbols when u move around with something different u r not a commoner! As u go throuugh u willbe invited to buy and shop where the rich people go to burn away their excess money..

Stop and think does any reading make u more Cosmopolitian than u really want to be from deep within you?

It is a cheap attempt to suggest that Cosmo readers are somehow superior to those who do not read that magazine. Who said it, the Cosmo sales department ??

Maybe then think that you obey everything that the magazie says, whether it's true or not. Or maybe the author suggests that the audience targeted by the magazine is possibly a more mature audience.
