The Erythrocyte Sedimentation rate(ESR),in the past decades had been considered as an indicator for confirming any existing infection. However, research proved other implication too.
The ESR rises with age and anaemia. And also certain disease conditions such as,cancer, connective tissue diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, kidney diseases, leukaemia and even soon after any major injury and stress all can rise ESR.
Certain type of treatments too can rise ESR.Any active infection is the other commonest reason too.
You no need to trouble your mind as high levels of ESR occurs as part of the disease process and it will resolve to normal or near normal when, underlying illness or factor is treated. Therefore, please do not worry.
I hope, the following formula will be of great useful if, you want to calculate your upper normal value of the ESR.
For men: Age in years / 2
For women: (Age in years+10) / 2
Hope, it helped.
Regards,

It doesn't necessarily mean that he is in for further trouble. ESR can be elevated when there is something wrong with the body and you say he has HBV and is being treated for it. The elevated numbers could be due to that.

A high ESR value indicates an infection in the body. Clinical symptoms and other tests are used to correlate the same with the high ESR values.

The test is for inflammatory markers and yes they are up, but ask the doctor for further advice because with some diseases like mine it is normal for them to be elevated
