I've had many an occasion where a white (oops hope that's not bad-PC) person has not acknowleged something I've done; bad manners are not linked to ethnicity or culture but to the way we are brought up by our parents.

This is just a minor thing. The worst I have seen in Bangla Desh. Right from childhood they have not been taught to say THANK YOU and I AM SORRY. Only because of these two missing acknowledgements to which they are not accustomed to, I saw so many fights on roads during my recent visit. So if no Asian is acknowledging you, which I doubt very much, just ignore it at least no asian is coming out to stab you in road rage.

All the first generation Asian immigrants I know told me that the thank you wave is new to them. And the Asians I know that are a few generations in (specifically third and fourth generation American-born) told me they do the thank you wave all the time. I'm told by them that it's not often one comes across the third, fourth, and fifth generation American-born Asian, so that's probably why you haven't encountered a thank you waving Asian.

you know what your absolutely right.
the Asian men don't say thank you as it is far beneath them to say thank you, but they will always expect it from you!
the Asian women don't say thank you because they feel as they have scored 1- 0 by not doing it to the Asian men and everyone else. LOL
I'm laughing because I'm Asian and i experience this off every Asian driver, although i do give way as it is plain simple courtesy.
However now that i have bashed the Asians, the white men are just the same. Not the older generation ones they know all about courtesy, its the young thuggish looking ones (sorry to stereotype) they also never ever say thank you.
white women are the most courteous in my opinion as far as driving goes only
Oh what a society we live in eh!

Many of them had someone else to take their driving tests for them and are putting all their effort into driving when they are behind the wheel, and so they can't be distracted. Don't wave to them or they will think you have sussed them out and they will panic and drive away at high speed, and even have an accident. Happened to me once. Safer to let them go pass and forget your good deed.
By asian, you mean those from the sub-continent (nearly 10% of UK pop and don't bow except to the east side of the mosque) and not Japanese, Koreans, Thai (who do bow), etc. Right?

I think when he's saying Asians he's only really talking about Pakis. People have gone PC crazy in this country and are too scared to stand up to these bastards.
As for where I live, they're so polite that they have spent this week trying to blow us up!! I work across the road from the main mosque in Glasgow and they starting appearing at 1pm - wait for the explosions!!

It is cultural differences and you can not say all of them are like that. I know in Thailand they are very thankful people but I know other asians that they just are not into small talk like saying thank you and being friendly. That can be considered a good thing to some.

haha ... are you talking about indians? because we have some of THE worst road etiquette out there! you have to understand, though, that up until a few decades ago, most people had bullock carts as their means of transport. over the past 2 decades or so, people who were financially backward have now really pulled through and can afford fancy cars - but that doesn't change their blood! in backward areas, these little gestures weren't taught; its not that people are rude on purpose, its just that they don't realise!

Basically, I would say it is culture. They don't thank you in Greece either. It's because, if you have to give way then it is their right of way! Why should they thank you because you have carried out a regulation of the road? It isn't that you were being courteous, it is a rule that you should give way!
