The best gun has three qualifications:
1. It works. Every time, no matter what.
2. It's ergonomic. It HAS to fit your hand. If it doesn't, you won't shoot it well.
3. You're familiar with it. You have to know your gun inside and out. You must shoot it. And shoot it often.
Notice price did not make the list. Like roaddvr43 said, your budget for a firearm that you might ever rely on for survival should match what you think your life is worth.

There is not one that is really good for that price, unless you find a desperate private seller. Right now, most of your good 9mm guns (CZ/TZ/SW/Ruger) are over $400. I am leaving out Glock, HK, Sig, etc. due to the fact that those guns are veen more than the ones that used to be $375 and have since gone up. Save another $75 and be patient.

The best buy is the Ruger P95DC, they just keep on working and with today's defensive ammo you can be well protected. Next after this one is the Taurus 92 with the improved trigger spring from Wolff's Gun Springs and you may want a set of hogue grips. These are the best ones at this price level, they are durable and work well, and 9MM ball ammo is the cheapest to practice with

My first choice would not be a 9MM it would be a .40 S&W.However the choice is yours. I carried a S&W M-59 as a cop for one reason, it would hold 16 rounds. 15 in the mag and one in the tube. I never felt real confident in it's stopping power but I could send 46 rds. down range in a hurry. I dont know of any real good 9MM auto's for $375.00but they might be out there. Here is my advice . You should buy a gun based on what you think your life is worth. Good luck

You are close. For about 450 you can get a nice stainless EAA Witness compact 9mm. They are absolutely beautiful and shoot like a dream. They are manufactured by Tangfolio; who is a nephew to the Beretta family. It has reversed rails which gives it a nice narrow profile, three dot night sight, and the wormanship is top quality. I love my S&W but have also fallen in lust with my witness. Check one out; for the money you can't go wrong. Google EUROPEAN AMERICAN ARMS.

Save another hundred dollars. why get a piece of crap? whats the rush, wait a little longerIf. you want such a good gun than save another hundred. clock 17 or 19 very nice gun, easy to use, acurate, easy to clean. most cops carry them for this reason.
In my estimation though the nicest is a Springfield XD its got a polished inside, the hand grip is a little better made than the Glock and its got an extra security feature but its hot looking, shots well, and as easy to maintain as the clock. After these two gun i find all other guns inacurate or more difficult to maintain or lastly just not as cool looking

The 9mm is overrated for self-defense*.. A wiser more lethal choice is nothing less than a 357 Magnum or 45 acp*... That is if you would rather be a survivor instead of a Victim*... Buy a used one the criminal won't know or care if it was new or used*.. I buy all my firearms used all 22 Rifles, Shotguns, Pistols and Revolvers*.... Let the other guy pay the new price and you can save a lot of $$$$$$$$$*.......NO regrets here*........

Browning Hi Power for traditional, time-proven all metal single-action pistol. Springfield XD for modern polymer. Let me also recommend SIG and HK used models.
