Sure as long as you build it proper and don't charge me a million dollars for it.

Not when I can buy a kayak for less than $800 that is very stable and just as fast as a canoe. No I will not be able to take as much on a kayak as I could a canoe but when I go fishing I do not need to take 300 pounds of stuff with me.

The short answer would be, no. However I am looking into buying a couple of canoes for my wife and I but I haven't decided on how much I'm willing to spend on them. Hand-made though, would be highly unlikely

It would be nice to have a hand built canoe and I can think of a few uses I would have for one.......but I already own a Jon boat and it's perfect for what I do.
Good luck with your project.

When I was in high school our youth group built some canoes and went to Algonquin Park in Ontario every summer to backpack and canoe. We made them from fiberglass and steamed oak slats for ribs. They were light so we could carry them across portages. People in the church bought them with the understanding that the kids could use them one week a year for the trip. It was a lot of work but we had a lot of pride knowing we were using canoes we built from scratch. If you do good quality work and stand behind it, you shouldn't have any problem selling them. People know they get what they pay for.

If you are planning to start on your woodworking project, this isn't something you should use, it's something that you would be insane not to. Go here https://tr.im/1GpNV
Truth is, I've been a carpenter for almost 36 years, and I haven't found anything like this for less than 10's of thousands of dollars.

"Thinking" about building a canoe is easy.
Spending the time & sweat to actually "build" a canoe is hard,(not to mention the space you need for a project of this magnitude!).
A well-built "handmade" wood canoe goes for around $1200-5500. Many people can find a VERY nice "motorized" fishing boat for under $5500. It's an unfortunate "reality" to realize that you may not find a buyer for your project canoe.
A suggestion: Build it for "you" 1st, and then if someone buys it , great !

look into making a fly fishing boat that is light and is easily transported. There are plans online and very few will make custom boat like this.

Only to look at and admire the craftsmanship, like you stated "they're a work of art". I like a utility boat (alum) that can be launched in a few inches of water and dragged of rough bottom if necessary without fear of damage to the finish of the hull.
