It is the sacred book of a very, very large religion. They buy more than one. They buy a pretty one as a gift for weddings, for first communion (Catholic, anyway), and for other occasions. They print millions, if now by now billions, to give away to "heathens," to leave in hotel and motel rooms. They put them everywhere. Like "Quotations of Chairman Mao," which rivaled it for distribution there for awhile, it is fashionable in certain circles to own several, read it so often you can quote many passages, etc.
Really not surprising it's a best-seller, is it? Really?

Interesting take.... We weren't there when Darwin conceded that the universe was come through a big bang, and yet throughout the decades of this understanding have many embraced it......
The thing that is most important to note, where history is concerned, is what inspires truth within an individual. Certainly, the Scriptures of the Bible, have maintained and is self-evident of having the most impact upon society! Such an impact, was this written message, that it has lifted people enough to cause a change in the personality, the behavior, and future of some who otherwise would be lost.
If you can write a better story, would it be worthy of report? Will it inspire for generations to come as well as those who have passed? Will it lift a nation in distress, and will it cause as much change to the individual man as these simple words you have dared to throw away.....
I say, be inspired!!! We must all find a way!

That is what atheists or non-believers always state in protest by their unbelieving souls that there is Someone far greater than anyone on earth who made the universe and who made all things impossible possible. The bible sells millions and millions of copies each year and makes it a best seller because it is the only book that gives all of us true hope of salvation.
It does not matter what you believe in or what you don't consider as factual but for us millions of people, the bible was written by people who existed and was inspired by the Holy Spirit to chronicle events that happened long before you and I were born. You have your choice, we have ours. No need to expound further on the subject.

Except it is the most accurately copied book in history with a 94% accuracy rate when compared to the dead sea scrolls, I would have to say that there is a good chance that some of it's writers were there.
As for the New testament its writers were 1st person witnesses to the disciples, how close do they need to be to suit you? As for the events that did not happen, many of the Old Testament stories cannot be confirmed due to the amount of time passed, but the New Testament is historically accurate and archaeologically accurate. Many of the stories in the New Testament have been confirmed by secular writers of the day also.

On the subject, the falsity of the bible , there is a very controversial book, and a video based on that book (you can find the video on you tube )called "The Bible Unearthed" . This amazing book, about the origin of the Bible, demonstrates that there is no archaeological evidence for the existence of Abraham, Patriarchs, Moses, Exodus or even the monarchies of David or Solomon of the Bible, making a great case against the veridicality of the bible.
I suggest anyone to read it .

If you want to eliminate all history books and biographies written by people who were not present for actual events, you will seriously deplete the public libraries.

because the populace is so blinded nowadays, and 2000 years ago, the xians murdered everyone who didnt conform, or atleast say that they conformed....luckily, they didnt get EVERYONE else we'd all be zombies, just like the majority of the world....wait, i take that back, not the majority, just more ppl are under xian control than any ONE other religion, or program, whatever, on the face of our insignificant planet....after the majority of ppl they ran into conformed, they just waited....and waited....until the last of the resistant seeds died out, and by that time, everyone was believing and buying bibles, trying to save their souls from the wrath of a kind god....wait, does that make any sense? bah, perhaps im rambling....

Honestly I suspect it's cause it's been in print since before the press was invented & the figures are quoted from that.
