I'm around cats all the time, never noticed anything like this but now that you brought out this situation I'll pay attention... take her to the Vet .... I'll suggest to make a movie while it's happening it will be good to see exactly her attitude.

Perhaps she has pain in her jaw and yawning or meowing is uncomfortable. She probably has the same difficulty when eating. Or maybe it is her way or processing hairballs. Call you vet and ask the nurse for other ideas or suggestions. They should be able to help and know if it's something more serious like a growth in her throat or in her jawbone. It sounds too odd, it's likely a result of something that is bothering her.

I have never heard of such a thing, i would suggest taking her to a vet, she may have something stuck at the base of her tongue, or she may be having mild seizures, of course she may be perfectly normal, but better to be safe than sorry.

It sounds like a Hairball
Place some type of oil on its food to loosen the hairball.
I use bacon grease. They love it. olive oil works too.

I suppose a tong could get a cramp like any other muscle.

I don't think it would be cramp if it happens all the time.
