This is a excerpt from a response given by a relatively new Y/A user... I think it makes a clear picture of why some people are encouraged by science and disenchanted with religion.
What do you think?
"The thing about science is that it doesn't claim to know the answers to everything. Religion does. Science on the other hand works at obtaining knowledge. When it makes mistakes, it acknowledges the mistake, corrects it, and moves on. Religion does not." (Thank you, Jacquelyn)

I have to ask a follow-up question here... Where in the world do believers get this oddly bazaar notion that science is a gift from god? Does it say anything like that in the holy books of any theistic document?

Yeah, I think you're right, religion DOES claim to be infallible, whilst the furthest science is allowed to go is laws and theories (which are easily changeable/correctible). I like this Jacquelyn person.

Religions comes from God, the answer comes from God. God created everything in this world, thus he created the answers.
We have brain and ability to think. God choose certain people to have more intelligents to find, research and to produce what we call science. Without God's gifted to the persons, none will know anything at all. Everything is God's will.
Religions is a way God teach human. its where the history, presents and future was stated and thats where humans originate the research of this world. They searching things that been claimed in holy books. They trying to find proves of what been said in holy books. thats where the exploration started.
God teach us through religion.

There is an erroneous assumption that Jacquelyn makes in her statement. Religion does not claim to have ALL of the answers to everything. What a generalization! That just is not so. So you and Jacquelyn need to acknowledge your mistake, correct it, and move on. :-)

Real science would not say that God does not exist unless it had facts and quantitative analysis to back it up.
Blind science--makes statements based on what the researchers want to believe---instead of what they should believe.
Peace.
