I've been really impressed with most of the answers so far.

If I had to make a preference, then I'd have to say "yes" I would prefer believing we live after death but it would be in an ideal setting where we continue to grow in essence I suppose.

The concept of living forever would be a nightmare. If there is life after this life and its identical to our experience here, then I would hope I cease to exist when I die & turn to nothing. Just gone with the wind. I wouldn't do this life thing again on purpose surely.

And if we do live on in a better place, I would hope that eventually there is a "nirvana" where we do go back to the beginning or oneness with the creator so to speak. That, to me, would be a final resting place.

I don't tend to just believe anything because I think I like to believe it. I try to find proof in some way or another of anything before I actually believe it. Whether I like to believe anything or not it irrelevant. I have not been dead, sometimes I think I feel the presence of people who once walked the earth and no longer do. I have never sensed that however of anyone that I personally knew. I don't know enough about the existence or non-existence of multi dimiensions, to say that I believe that after death we live on a different one. I really don't know what to expect after death. I'm not expecting the widely talked of "bright white light at the end of a tunnel" but, I suppose if that is what there was, then I would believe it. Whether it is in another dimension, who am I to say? That is a hard question. Good luck in finding a good answer.

I would like to believe that, but God told us that when we die we return to the earth. The dead know nothing, is stated in Ecclesiastes. So, when we die, we basically become part of the earth again, until such time when the Book of Life is opened and the ressurection starts.

working under the assumption that humans have souls, and that souls are made from energy or whatnot, then we can only live on. Energy cannot be created nor destroyed, only moved and transformed- it's physics.

Eternal life sounds like a nightmare to me.

I would prefer to just be finished with the whole living thing when I die.

Yes and no. My beliefs are in every possibility and no possibility (the Void), that way I'm not disappointed no matter what happens.
