That this forum is open to the public - all my personal questions have been aired around my boyfriends office. It has destroyed him and us. I did not realise that anyone could google my name and find out who I am - now all his colleagues know every personal bit of information I have ever asked (and answered). It has destroyed us as a couple - he now has to change jobs where he was doing really well - and we (especially I) cannot face most of his colleagues ever again just cos one idiot in his office googled my name and found all my personal questions on this.
So just a warning to everyone else. 'BIG BROTHER' is out there for real.

I'm really sorry this happened to you - actually I would be mortified if this happened to me - just a tip tho - you can keep your previous Q&A private - got to Edit my profile - that way at least it makes it harder for people to see what you've been asking esp if it is personal.
Hope you feel better soon - don't worry I think you can still hold your head up high.

This forum and hundreds, if not thousands, of other forums. Almost everything you do on a forum, Usenet news group, blog, etc is archived and can be Googled. This is one of the first lessons anyone using the internet should know, if you have a very personal question or answer that could cause you trouble if a friend or colleague saw it, don't post it. EVER.

Yes, it is surprising but true and a little disturbing finding yourself out the on the web and even more locatable within Y answers without having to log in, particularly with some of the legislation governments are putting in place stifling free speech not to mention your personal privacy. Be prudent with your statements in Y answers and deny everything to people claiming to have identified you.

Thats just little brother - google your name, and up it comes. Big brother is even nastier - will trace your IP address and can and will identify anything and everything you have ever done online on your machine. We have sacrificed our privacy for a ride in the funhouse - be careful. Avatars can be fun, you and your man should come up with screennames for each other and turn a negative into a fun filled positive. And hey, what your colleagues think of you is none of your business, hold your head high, do your work well, and know that they all have private lives too.

If you type in you user name and then "Yahoo Answers" or "Yahoo" your profile WILL be in the first 4-5 results.
Actually, now I am annoyed...something insulting that another user posted regarding me came up too, and its rather rude.
The best thing is to not use your real name and set your Q&A to private.
And somethings are best NOT put on the world wide web...but I do sympathise with you. I was in a similar situation years ago and it was very hurtfull.

It's not Big Brother. It's just, as you put it very well, a public forum... which means, just as you should not have an expectation of privacy for the emails you write at work, you should expect that posting personal information on the internet will be available for whomever wants to circulate it.
Welcome to reality.

I am so sorry that happened to you! That is a nasty and dirty thing to do. I did not know that they could get your yahoo answers i.d. Did they know your user name because I do not understand why it would show up? I did mine and my name did not come up. They obviously do not have a life and were looking for a way to get at him and sadly, they found it in his partner.
I hope he does not blame you and you can make it because that would be exactly what they want to see happen.
peace honey!
