neither, get a SONY if you aren't going to do it right.
Otherwise upgrade in those brands.
They should be ashamed of releasing either if them.

I would go with the Yamaha. Its a better made product and will provide years of beautiful trouble free listening. Even if you could get someone to connect both, it is doubtful you would hear a difference. Plus you probably wouldn't know what to listen for anyway if these are the models you are comparing. No biggie because no one really knows what to listen for and those who say they do are usually just faking it.
Yamaha and Pioneer are good for about 99 and a half percent of the people who listen to music and movies. The half percent left over make up sound engineers. so unless you are a sound engineer....

Hi Paul .The specifications of both Receivers are pretty similar so i guess it comes down to sound quality. Both Pioneer and Yamaha can sound very musical but i think Yamaha might have the edge on Pioneer.Yamaha seems to have a "softer sound"(more musical) which is pleasing to the ear .But i think you should listen to both of them just to be sure.

I don't know the specifics of the model number you are referring to. Aparently, from one comment here, they are low end amps.
Otherwise, I've used Pioneer, Onkyo, Sony, Harman-Karmon, and currently have a Yamaha. The Yamaha outperforms all the others I've used.

You need to find a retailer that is able to test the receivers through the same set of speakers so that you can hear the difference in sound quality. This is the only way you are going to figure out which one sounds best to YOU. It does not matter what anyone else thinks because everyone else's listening is different than yours. Good Luck!!!
