Hypothetically are there any current regimes that are capable of invading and overrunning the United States? Is America vulnerable to being besieged and who's capable?

Just curious

Who would have ambitions to topple and overrun the United States and for what reasons, again this is all hypothetical.

China's army is bigger than ours. The trouble is, not counting China, we spend more on our military than all the rest of the world combined. We also spend about 4x what China spends. China has a lot of armored tanks, but not much of a navy. It would be difficult for China to invade the US.

It would be difficult for ANY country to invade the US. We have about 80 million armed citizens. (1 out of 4 americans owns a firearm). At least half of these americans would be willing to take up their private arms against any invading army. An invader would have much more difficulty in the US than we are having in Iraq.

My college roommates once tried to explain that russia could invade from Mexico. Mexico? Russia is less than 100 miles off the coast of Alaska. How could they land in Mexico without our knowledge? We wouldn't guess there was massive troop movement across the pacific to there?

Also, I drove along I5 in southern california once, while excercises were being conducted in the hills to the east of the freeway. For 20 miles there were tanks, armored troop transports, and military equipment of all sorts. We have a huge military presence there already--what we have not redeployed to Iraq. The notion Russia might invade from Mexico has always struck me as ridiculous--even more ridiculous than the notion insular China might invade.

Right to bear arms, plenty of crazy summuvabitches willing to use 'em. Right wing militias, NRA, legalised semi-automatic rifles, more gangs armed to the teeth then any invading force could imagine, and God help them if they reach the South.
The only places that could possibly fall: Hawaii (due to location), and San Fransisco (you can't move troops around in hybrids).
America is strategically set between two friendly nations, thousands of miles of water, and a heavy sprinkling of standoff military assets in the Pacific and Atlantic.
The only country who it is concievably possible is China, but they don't want to be nuked and if push comes to shove, we'd destroy the whole world before we are overidden.
Watch the documentary Red Dawn someday.

It would be extremely difficult, considering we're surrounded by ocean on two sides, and foreign countries bordering the others. They would face either coming by sea and being greeted by one of the most powerful Navy's in the world, or invading another country to get to us. Either option leaves them pretty weak before they even set foot on dry American soil.

Edit for additional details:

Who has the ambition? No one really wants our land, but rather rogue extremists would like to destroy our way of life - such as Al Queda for example.

Can they take the country by force? Absolutely not. We, as Americans, may have our political differences but I know in my heart that every man and woman in this nation would band together to fiercely protect it and our families. It wouldn't only be our military they'll be fighting. They know it would be humiliating defeat, that's why they choose to use sneak attacks instead.

Well they cant take the pacific or atlantic. They would pay off Mexico drop off their troops and head north. Mexico would be behind it all the Mexicans would revolt.

We are Americans. It will take a whole hell of a lot to kill us all. When it comes to our country they would have to kill every single man women and child. It would be bad for them. Gurilla warfare through the streets and subburbs. It is impossible or it would take a long time and LOTS of people to take us dowm

Only 1-China

The Army is the only one large enough. Given the fact that we have so many nukes. I am not sure how anyone would ever pull that one off?

Zero, far too many hunting rifles, guns of various types, 4 wheel drive vehicles, and communication (CB Radios), so no chance at all, every street corner would be an armed camp.

A single wave *might* get through, if they somehow managed to take us completely by surprise, while people were asleep in their beds. They very next day, however... every last one of them would be slaughtered by the armed citizens.

yes it is possible. China has a big enough military to accomplish it if they decided to invade us

There is no chance of any one country successfully invading the U.S... American citizens have far too much firepower.. Any country that tries would get slaughtered...
