My mother-n-law was diagnosed last week and is in utter pain. She is taking loads of meds. I am hoping she will start feeling better soon. I dont believe there is any fast home remedies to cure shingles. You or whom ever you know that has shingles needs to seek medical attention soon.
Shingles is contagious as far as chicken pox are concerned.

Shingles is caused by the dormant chicken pox virus, herpes zoster. Friends of mine have had shingles, and there is no fast remedy for it. It has to run its course. However, you should consult a physician or other health professional as soon as possible. Herpes zoster is treated with anti-viral, pain and anti-inflammatory medications. Eye drops and ointments may be prescribed to treat ocular problems. In some cases, secondary conditions caused by herpes zoster may require surgery.
Those who are infected should avoid contact with people who may be more susceptible to contracting the disease such as: the elderly, children, pregnant women, or anyone with a compromised immune system.

Shingles is a remnant of chicken pox. Somehow a virus of it can go dormant for many years, and then something awakens it, but it can't go its normal route, so it turns inward and attacks the nerves. The result is nothing but pain.
The only solution is see your doctor for the proper prescriptions, which can be quite expensive.

Shingles is an outbreak of the herpes zoster virus (you probably had chickenpox as a child and your immune system is a little stressed right now so it's letting the dormant virus affect you).
Try a course (1 month) of 500 mg of L-Lysine every morning on an empty stomach. This will help suppress the virus.

I hate Doctors, but you have to go to the doctor for this and fast. I have a friend that lost her eyesight to shingles!!!! It was on her neck and she tried to medicate it herself, but it spread so fast, and then it was too late. Go to the doctor!

It's painful. I think the doctor will prescribe you pain relief and something to help you fall asleep.
