I am eighteen years old and my body has been hurting for many months, probibly over a year. I have been growing and suffering from stress, but the pain has increased over the past few months. The pain also effects my ancles, causing my feet to hurt every time I get up to walk. I have talked to my mom about this and we have disgussed seeing a doctor. Is this pain simply stress and growing pains or something bigger?

Mary... if the following hurts:

finger joints
ankles
elbows
knees
shoulders

It's symmetrical... if one ankle hurts the other will hurt... if one hand hurts the other will hurt as well.

It may be Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis... you need to see a doctor soon... very soon! Check it out on WebMD. I sincerely hope its just stress.

This has been going on for over a year and your mom hasn't taken you to see a doctor? Get to the doctor. Having pain all the time is not normal.

It could just be dehydration. The fact that your ankles and feet are starting to hurt could also be warning signs of Diabetes. go to the doctor. You really need a professional opinion.

Stress can trigger auto-immune diseases. It would be to your best interest to have your mother read this site together. Stress causes the body to release too much cortisol, and this can cause all kinds of health problems.

Sweetie if you are that stressed out at 18 you really need to do some self-care. Think about Yoga, Pilaties, Meditation, Music, Journalling. Please find something to relieve your stress. If you body hurts now imagine in 2, 5, 10, 20 years. Please do something now before it gets worst.
