Boo all the earlier answers. Even the pharmacist knows that livostin is prescription only. You won't find an eyedoctor worth their degree that will recommend Visine-A.
A very good anti-allergy eye drop went OTC (Over the Counter) 4 months ago. Get Zaditor-OTC. It is a bright orange box. The dosage is twice daily during allergy season. It is its original prescription strength and works great for 14.99 per bottle.
Claritin does not get adequately to ocular tissues, and do NOT use an oral antihistamine such as pseudophederine or phenylephrine. They will dry your eyes out worse, as well as possibly dilate your pupil and blur your vision.

I've dealt with the same thing. Benadryl works the best...unfortunately it also makes you very tired and isn't an option for me when I want to actually function ;) . I find Claritin -D works well for me. I also use Visine-A eyedrops for redness (I don't do drugs but look stoned without them, my eyes are always red and irritated). For me a lot of mine is food related as well (sensitivities to ingredients) so I need to watch what I eat. Becasue I wera contacts teh moisture drops I use are made specificlaly for that, but you can look in the eye care section of your local drugstore or talk to your eye doctor about a possible prescription drop for dry eyes (there is also a good allergy one although the name of it escapes me....)

A good oral antihistamine should do the trick, especially if you suffer other allergies like itchy, runny nose; or if it is more severe an antihistamine eye-drop or livostin eye drops should help.
Sorry - just needed to edit and add for the benefit of mr. eye doctor - was not aware that this was a US question - as livostin is available in Australia without a script - furthermore pseudoephedrine and phenylephedrine are NOT antihistamines and so was not recommending these...Otherwise I would fully reccomend your advice to the asker.

Try some allergy eye drops. You can get them in CVS ....like Visine for al;lergy eyes. If this doesn't work too well try some Claritin or Claritin D ...over the counter.

I think you have answered your own question.
To solve your eye irritation you need to treat your allergies. See your doctor. Over the counter allergy eye drops are not nearly as effective as prescription ones and the OTC kind can cause other problems.

i get irritated eyes often, possibly due to hayfever. my optometrist recommended naphcon-a, which contains a decongestant and an antihistamine for itchy eyes. clears it right up :)
