For the last year I have been very depressed and hardly left the house. When I do go out I'm very unfit. I even get out of breath walking round the block.

I really need help to regain my fitness. But it is difficult because I find it really difficult to go outside because I get nervous.

What excercise can I do. I'm not even 30. I can't be so unfit.

Congratulations on getting through a very difficult year. I hope you can put the year behind you. You should start slow and work up to more intense exercises. If you have a good friend, you can start with some walking around your neighborhood or a park trail.

After awhile, join a gym, sign for workout classes, or hire a personal trainer. You would be amazed at your progress after getting started.

Hi there, i can really sympathise as i've been there myself. due to a hormonal imbalance i've been housebound and getting very panicky if I do go out, it's been a year and a half for me. 2 months ago i just started a gentle walk round the block and slowly each week added on a few minutes. don't increase your round the block walk until you no longer get out of breath going round the block. If you are a bit anxious or depressed you probably aren't breathing properly either, so make sure you aren't holding your breath etc.

you can do this, I have had to do it and being depressed and housebound for a year definitely means you will get unfit. take an ipod with you with calming or enjoyable music and if you start to feel anxious concentrate on that. Just do it a little at at time and you will find that as you increase exercise it will also help your depression. i have just been throught his exact thing and i'm out the other side now, so I know you can do it too. X

Good for you "a", I'll give you an A for making the effort. Keep walking the block, slowing down just a bit when you get winded. Once you can do the block without getting winded, add another block, or half block, if that works for you. Keep adding more blocks as you conquer the last one. And chart your success! I have read many articles about walking (try Prevention.com and RealAge.com) that say it is the best of all exercises, and that we should aim for 10,000 steps a day. Get a step counter to track it for you.

I just moved to a new city, and I'm meeting all my new neighbors as I do my walks, it's a lot of fun. Walking also helps ease depression because when we stress our bodies like that (in a healthy way) we stimulate the release of brain chemicals and adrenalin, which make us feel great.

You need to do a little exercise each day, and then increase the amount you do each day gradually.

Start of with a 5 minute brisk walk each day, and increase this every week so that you do 10 mins on week 2 etc.
At home you can do some gentle stretches each day.

Try the web link below for exercise plans. If they don't suit you just search the web with "free exercise routine".

Just remember that every little helps, so use the stairs instead of lifts and escalators. Walk instead of getting the bus or driving etc.

Good luck

Get some books from the Library, or there are some fabulous programmes on SKY at the moment for HEALTHY eating and LIFESTYLES. Its basically down to a good healthy foods and exercise, basics first, a nice walk in the sun shine, go swimming, then start to run, build it up, good luck....I have been there....its not to bad once you start.......remember, a journey of a thousand miles starts with one footstep (at a time) x

eat a proper diet. join a gym, excersise atleast 3 times a week for about an hour. dont eat so much. eat slowly. the slower you eat the faster your body feels like its getting full. run around your neighborhood. cut out fast food restaurants , eat more homecooked meals. dont order out so much. if you go out dont go to a buffet go to a restaurant instead. if you cant join a gym buy some exercise videos and equipment. try to do sit ups regularly to get a flatter stomach.

okay. hope this helped =D
