Best buy is probably one of the shittiest places to work in the United States, and quite possibly my worst job experience (tied with Burger King, another shitty high school job I had). Everyone (well, most) there is either borderline retarded or a complete douche (or both).

You see, Best Buy prides itself on "promoting from within," so most of the managers are usually the douche bags who managed to stick around long enough to get promoted. In other words, they aren't promoted on merit. It honestly amazes me that Best Buy is still around today, given its management structure (at least in the stores).

To actually answer your question though, it depends on what you actually want to do there. Do you want to work in the store? Do you want to work for the corporate office? The requirements will be different depending on what job you want to do.

If you just want to be a cashier or a stocker, unless you've killed someone, they will probably hire you (if you can pass a drug test (or get someone else to pee for you)). If you want to be a manager at the store, you'll have to wait out everyone else who works there and eventually you'll be promoted, unless they fire you first.

And by the way, they actually almost never "fire" a person, what they do is actually just give you no hours for the week, which of course usually forces people to quit. The only way you're going to get fired by Best Buy is if you're stealing stuff from the store and they find out.

And while we're on that subject, the "loss prevention" team isn't as good as it's made out to be. Professional groups of shoplifters used to hit our store all the time, and any amateur with some experience in shoplifting can do it too.

Anyway, it actually got so bad that they had to conscript us (cashiers, salespeople, and stockers) into the loss prevention team by greeting EVERY CUSTOMER WE SAW AND KEEPING TABS ON THEM. Needless to say, it still didn't work.

Now, if you want to be the GM, you'll have to have a bachelor's or a lot of experience as a manager at Best Buy (our GM, possibly the only cool person at Best Buy, came over from Circuit City). It's actually incredibly easy to become a GM, considering the ridiculous amounts of money they make ($100,000 I've heard).

If you want to work in the corporate offices, you'll have to check out their website and see what their requirements are. I honestly don't know. But if you want to work in the store, don't worry, it's incredibly easy to get hired at Best Buy.

Finally, one more thing before I go--the discount they offer to employees is filled with all kinds of loopholes (unless they changed it), and isn't even very good in the first place. Just thought I'd mention that.

Also, check out this site, you'll learn a lot more:

I do not know about Best Buy... However, when I am interviewing potential employee, I ask myself, do they have a positive outlook? Do they seem energetic and eager to learn? And Can I see them fitting in with my team? If I can truly say yes to all three questions, I'll hire them more often than not. I cannot imagine Best Buy being much different in the thought process.

It can't be that hard. I see high school kids working there everyday. They do have workers who work on sales commish though, so maybe you need sales experience to get one of those jobs.
