I think that it is absolutely absurd to be teaching kids that young anything of a sexual nature, including alternative lifestyles!
Get off the politically correct agenda and get back to teaching the 3 R's.

Ahhh the urban legend lives! That's all it is. Nope no school in California had kindergartners reading books ABOUT homosexuallity. There ARE books in libraries about different types of families. Such as families with only grandparents and grand children, families with an aunt and uncle rather than mom and dad. Families with two moms, and two dads, famlies with just mom, families with just dad. These books do not go into detail about lifestyle they are just to show that families come in all sexes and sizes and that what is important is the love and support of the children and not the sexuality, sexual preference or genders of those in the family.

There are things that should be presented to students at certain ages. Homosexuality is an intense subject for any audience. It is a matter of opinion as to when it is suitable to present materials relating to this subject. Parents should be consulted as to when, IF ever, they want this matter broached by anyone to their children, especially young children. One can not just stand by and let things happen. Remember this, If God be for us, who can be against us? - Romans 8:31. Also, The Lord daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. - Psalm 68:19. Peace and God Bless.

I would send a note in your child`s bag, if you disagree with the book and have your child sit out if the book is being read. I have come to head`s with my child`s school about certain holiday`s and ritual`s and I wrote a note and sent it with my child and my children did another fun activity and sat out. You don`t have to follow along with what society has decided to tolerate...My kids have been taught right from wrong, they have read the bible and they know God`s word.

I think that this is probably just a rumor. Although I wouldn't really have a problem with my kid reading this book. As longs as it's appropriate (as in, no sex or anything of that nature). If it's just about two guys falling in love i think it's fine. The earlier we teach our children about this stuff the more tolerant there going to be. If we avoid it and treat it as a disease or something, the more homophobia spreads. It's not weird, it's normal. In this age we should have moved past this subject, other countries have progressed far beyond this. It's a waste of our precious time to be concerned about who likes who, and whether that's "okay". We don't have the right to tell people what they can and cannot do, seeing as their not causing harm. There are more important issues out there, and as a country we should not be turning homosexuality into a top priority.

Since this is a mature subject area that deals with sexuality, I think the appropriate way to handle it is to have the teacher notify the parents (in advance) and require the parents to sign a permission slip. The teacher then needs to arrange an alternate activity (in a separate room) for any children who's parent's did not grant permission for their child to read this book.
Personally this is a subject I would like to discuss with my children myself.

"Tailypo" by skill of Joanna Galdone. lovable yet creepy tale of a guy who cuts off a mysterious creature's tail and eats it, then turns into prey to that creature. "Bunnicula" by skill of James Howe. no longer frightening, yet has a reliable halloweenish ecosystem, some dogs and cat whose proprietors undertake a vegetable-sucking vampire bunny. So lovable! "capture Your Breath: A e book of Shivery Poems" compiled by skill of Lilian Moore. Spooky poems with spooky illustrations, suited for sons and daughters. "frightening memories to inform on the hours of darkness" by skill of Alvin Schwartz. A classic!

this past school year my first grader was introduced to the fact that a girl in his class had two mommies; we live in a fairly small town that is growing by the minute, but he says it like it is no big deal i don't think that he realises what having two mommies really means

well, this is definitely not true whatsoever. any book with sex related topics is bad, but im sure if it was the king and queen, you'd say it was okay, correct? well thats teaching a kid to be untolerant.
but anyway, what is wrong with homosexuality? i wouldn't mind my child reading a book like that as long as it contained no sexual words, pharses, or anything besides what a G rated disney movie woulld adress. if anything, it teaches them to be tolerant of all sexuality and understand things.
