Do you know how large they are? Your better off keeping your gall bladder if you can pass the stones safely. Lap would be the least invasive though.

If your interested in trying something other than surgery. I know is sounds abit hokey, but I have friends and family that have done it without needing surgery.
Basically you have to drink 1/2 to 3/4 a cup of Olive Oil with lemon juice to taste. Do this once every 5-7 days. It is a little tough to get down but I think it's worth a try to prevent needing surgery.

Laparoscopic surgery is less evasive and lets the patient go back to a normal life sooner. The open cholec is sometimes needed if the patient has had other abdominal surgeries before and there are a lot of scaring in the areas of incision. I know this from experience, it happened to me about 10 yrs ago.

If you can laproscopic is the better way, open procedures take 4-6 weeks recovery while a lap choley takes much less time. I had a lap choley years ago, I was back to work about 4 days after.

I had the lap done you get 4 holes that are tiny and recovery time is less also I don't think that they do the open cholec anymore unless it is an emergency it takes longer to recover.

i don't know the technical terminology but, when i had my gallbladder out the laproscopic surgery hadn't quite been perfected yet. i had regular surgery but with a much smaller scar.it wasn't awful but not pleasant either. if i had to do it again, id do it the new way. no contest.
