The Zoo is in a residential area, so the options are mostly neighborhood options. The best bet is to walk out of the exit by Connecticut Avenue (It's near the new Asia trail exhibit). There are several restaurants just outside of the zoo, but I can't imagine they're going to be very good. If you leave the zoo and take a right along Connecticut (heading north) the next neighborhood is Cleveland Park. It's about a 5 minute walk, nothing serious, and you get a nice view of Rock Creek Park. You'll walk over a little bridge before you get there. There are a ton of options in Cleveland Park. My favorite is Indique, a wonderful Indian restaurant. There's also an Italian deli called Vace that has the best pizza in DC. There's no seating area, you'll have to take your slice and go. But there are quite a few really good restaurants there.

Yes, there are restaurants on Connecticut Avenue near the main (upper) entrance of the zoo. There are several restaurants right across the street from the zoo. The other end of the zoo, the lower entrance, is a short walk to the Adams-Morgan neighborhood as someone else said.

hang a right out side the Zoo and you will run into several nice places over the next several blocks. a particular favorite is an Asian fusion restaurant on the same side as the Zoo and across the street from a Pub. I don't remember the name, but the food and sushi was quite excellent..Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Vietnamese styles. I want to say about 4-6 blocks down.

Cleveland Park also is home to Pho 79, a good Vietnamese restaurant.

You can head *downhill* on Connecticut Avenue -- to your left upon exiting the Zoo -- an equally short walk to Woodley Park, where food ranges from Lebanese to Afghan to Indian, as well as several qualityThai and Vietnamese restaurants.

Both Woodley Park and Cleveland Park are serviced by MetroRail Red line.

Yes, if you turn left on Conn. Ave. from the Zoo, a few blocks down there are several decent ones.
