Can I just state the obvious here? Only because it doesn't seem like anyone's done it lately:

1. Governments issue marriage licenses. They are legally binding contracts commingling property and establishing various medical powers of attorney.
2. Under our Constitution, the gov't "shall make no law respecting religion or the establishment thereof."
3. Accepting only the definition of marriage put forth by a particular religion as law is unconstitutional. Period. The gov't has NO BUSINESS deciding who can and cannot marry . . . churches have EVERY right to decide for whom they will, or will not, perform wedding ceremonies, but that is a private doctrinal issue, NOT a legal one.

Me, as I've often said, I don't much care who anyone not sleeping with me is sleeping with, and my neighbor's marriage is their business, not mine.

ADDED: Oh, and those asking what gays have contributed to society . . . lol. Try picking up a copy of "Vogue," "Architectural Digest," "Garden Design" or "Premiere." And whacking yourself with a clue-by-four.

I may be hetero, but I ain't blind and don't live under a rock.

Absolutely nothing is wrong with same sex marriage. Nothing. Except for forcing churches to accept them, that would be wrong. Glad that's not what the issue is, even though people love to make it out like that!

Interesting point, but not all people suffer in a marraige. My lady and I have been together for forty five years and it just gets better every day. Life is good.

One of my neighbors actually said "if you let two guys get married, then you would have to let a guy marry a goat if he wanted to". Instead of pointing out the obvious fallacy in this statement (a goat is not a consenting adult), I just smiled sweetly and said "and this would affect your life how exactly?"
She turned without saying a word, walked into her house and hasn't said a word to me since. Guess she's still mulling it over.
Edit- LOL at Hot Turkey and a big awwwwww to Big Irv

Just because marriages end in divorce does not mean that marriage is not sacred.

I believe that laws *permissive* of immorality *encourage* immorality. Take, for example, the laws against addictive recreational drugs. There are people who will never try such drugs just because they are illegal. This is a *good* thing for society.

Likewise a ban on gay marriage. As a Christian, I am required to believe that it is wrong to be a homosexual. Therefore, laws restricting homosexuality are good for society.

Even if we ignore the moral issues: as a person aware of how AIDS was first spread, and continues to be spread, it is common sense that homosexual activity be restricted by law *for the sake of society*. Consider where AIDS would be today if the U.S. still had laws banning homosexuality! Clearly, there are both moral and societal reasons for banning gay marriage.

Consider this: has the existence of homosexuality in our society, in and of itself, added anything beneficial to society? *I* am not aware of anything. Now ask yourself: has the existence of homosexuality in our society, in and of itself, caused any harm to society?

Hot Turkey and Big Irv - you both are soooo sweet!

I hate to burst bubbles for those who may approve of gay marriage...but it is very explicit in the Torah. Here:

The subject of homosexuality in Judaism dates back to the Biblical book of Leviticus.

This describes sexual intercourse between males as an "abomination" that may be subject to capital punishment, although Halakhic courts are not authorized to administer capital punishment for sexual immorality in the absence of a Temple in Jerusalem.

The Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible, is the primary source for traditional Jewish views on homosexuality. It states:

וְאֶת זָכָר לֹא תִשְׁכַּב מִשְׁכְּבֵי אִשָּׁה תּוֹעֵבָה הִוא
"[A man] shall not lie with another man as [he would] with a woman, it is a toevah" (Leviticus 18:22).

Leviticus 20:13 then states

"A man shall not lie with another man as he would with a woman; the two of them have done a toevah; they shall be put to death; their bloodguilt is upon them.

The term to'eva is usually translated as "abomination" and is used in the Bible to refer to a variety of forbidden acts including incest, idolatry, eating unclean animals, and economic injustice. In the context of sexual prohibitions, the word is also interpreted by the Talmud to be a contraction of the words to'eh ata vah, meaning "You deviate from what is natural."

Again, I have to always add my 2¢ in, sometimes it's worth it and sometimes it's "thumbs down", but I'm still in this forum to voice my personal opinions and feelings. I have several secular friends that are gay. They live their life the way they want to. They know my feelings about it, but we are still friends...just KEEP away from me in any way that is unproper. (I am Tzneis)

Shabbot Shalom to all of you!

56% of marriages ending in divorce does not prove that it's not sacred! Why do you assume that someone not allowing another who doesn't follow their faith to join in their ceremonies equates to hate.

OMG!!! Blasphemer!

How can you question God's divine and perfect plan? How, knowing that every creature is perfect, exactly the way God made them through God's own divine will and grace? Except gays, God's will was obviously that they should be scorned and persucuted in every un-Christian way possible.

It says in the Bible that Gay marriage is an abomination.

i dont think there's anything wrong with it...it's just that it's new to some people, and to some people it's just descusting because it's not natural. they'll get over it though. if not, the next generations of people will be more used to it, and eventually people are going to realize there's nothing wrong with it.
