"Cheap" is a relative term. I've discovered that many foods that appear cheap cost about the same as the premium foods per serving. The primary reason is that cheaper foods use fillers that aren't really digestable by the cat. It's waste product which means they poop more also meaning you use more litter as well as feeding more. Look at the serving size and the ingredients when selecting a food.

Cats are essentially carnivores so if the ingredients include any grains or grain products (corn, wheat, etc) these are items they aren't really digesting. They require meats. You want chicken, fish, beef, etc and not "By-products". By-products are things that aren't the real meat (Chicken feet, beaks, etc).

I did this a few months back, but the Iams kitten food that i currently feed ended up costing simply 2 cents a day more than the cheap. Check how much you need to feed per pound. You'll find you feed less of a premium food (Iams, Eukanuba, Hills) than the cheaper brands.

So in the long run, you're better off feeding a premium pet food versus a cheap food.

I spend only 20$ on food for a month. Isn't that cheap? I think it is. I buy Royal Canin Kitten 34. Also, not all cat food are made the same. I've read from many different sources saying that grocery store bought cat food can cause kidney problems in the long run.

If you can spend 20$ or even 30$ a month (extra canned cat food) then I suggest buying Royal Canin.

Note: This is in Canadian $$$
Another side note: If you look at the ingrediants of Purina Cat Chow, it has a lot of fillers (corn, rice, wheat, soy...). You should look for foods that contain beef, lamb, or chicken as it's main ingredients. Cat Chow has By-Products.

I have never heard of that brand. As far as cats go, I would go with a food that has no grains, no meat by-products and "Animal Fat", you don't know what kind of animal it is. It could be a Racoon, a roadkilled deer. Cats can't digest Corn. Same with Dogs. Cats need higher protein. More meat not grains. They don't eat a corn field or a wheat field in the wild, why put the grains in there. I recomend Wellness kitten, Solid Gold and when the kitten is an adult, stick with Wellness, Wysong, California Natural and Instinct. You pay alittle bit more but less at the vets and you have a healthier kitten in the long run. Good luck!

If you're looking to be 'cheap' then you have no right to have any pet. No living being is cheap and all of them require food, shelter, water, and medical care. It is their RIGHT BY LAW and if you are not prepared to properly care for your kitten then you have no right to have one. Would YOU want to eat the cheapest food around? Fine! I want you to go eat the cheapest, plainest, least nutritious food around - and do this non-stop for at least six weeks. I'll bet a self-indulgent person like you won't last 6 days, let alone 6 weeks. But you expect your kitten, whom you are supposed to love, to take that crap!

Better not get a kitten until you are financially responsible.

If you want cheap then it will not be best.
Cheap and best don't go in the same sentence
together. LOL
Buy the cat a good brand. Best in the long run.
Cats don't eat as much as dogs so it goes alot farther and worth buying. I would not recommend No commercia brand.
I go with All natural or Organic.

Purina Kitten Chow is great. My kitten loves it. In fact hes been eating it ever since he could eat solids. He doesn't like any other brand of food. And its relatively cheap.Buy the biggest bag to get your moneys worth.

Unfortunately the best kitten foods are never the cheapest. However if I had to recommend a cheap food...I would say Purina Kitten Chow is your best bet.

my 3 cats got purina kittenchow, till they were 1 year old. i asked my vet, and he said it is a perfectly fine brand. now that they are 2 & 4 years old, i switched them to "365" organic catfood, no artificial colors or flavors, low ash, and no fillers, at 1.99 for 3.5lb. if your kitten is used to one particular brand of food, switch it over slowly. just mix the new brand in with the old, decreasing the amount slowly. sudden change in food is not good for cats.

Diamond kitten food is the best. you can get a fifty pound bag for 15 to 20 dollars. it makes your kitten poop less and makes its fur shiny but you can only get it at a feed store.
