ok, i know that the Bible says that once God forgives you, its cast into the lake of something i cant remember what its called and is never known again. but if thats the case, then how will God punish us for sins we commit regularly (cussing, premarital sex, etc).

i know what you mean. I have 1 specific sin I struggle with. I'm attracted to the same sex. I resist and do have not given into it but sometimes I feel very lonely.
One thing I have noticed though is maybe I shouldn't call myself gay. I mean, I struggle with a sin but does that make me who I am? No, it doesn't. I am a child of God. I love Him with all my heart, mind and soul. you say that you are struggling. Rejoice in your struggles. That means God is holding onto you and allowing the Holy Spirit to convict you. Which means you care for God. I would worry about you if you didn't have struggles.

I am reminded of Jesus in the desert. AFTER 40 days and 40 nights the devil came and tempted him. First off, why was it after those 40 days. why not in the middle of them? Because after 40 days that's when Jesus' flesh was so weak. But as the temptations came, Jesus rebuked satan with scripture. So keep reading your bible. Hold your thoughts captive. Meaning when you feel the urge to sin, immediately ask God to take those thoughts away in the name of Jesus. The bible says resist the devil and he will flee. Jesus rebuked satan and he fleed.
You may say, "but Jesus was God!" True, but Jesus gave up all Godly power when He came to the earth in flesh. He was just a spirit filled man on earth. a MAN... who was tempted in everyway but did not sin. This was so He can identify with what we go through. But if a man can resist... that gives us hope that so can we.
Lastly, don't keep thinking of your sin. Keep your eyes on God. If you're running a race you don't look side to side, you look straight ahead at the finish line. If you sin, simply ask for forgiveness and move on. Once you truly repented and asked for forgiveness, if you still feel guilty... that's not God. That's the enemy.
oh and now lastly... Jesus died for our sins while we were yet still sinners. You know what that means? It doesn't mean Jesus died for all the sins you committed before you were saved. It means he died for the sins you committed in the past, present and future sins. He knows where your heart is. He knows we struggle with temptation and sin. But if you are truly struggling and not giving up God for your fleshly desires then you're not going to be punished. When you get to heaven God won't even see you.. He will see the blood of Christ on you.. just like at passover, the spirit swept over the land of egypt killing all the first born sons. well the only way the spirit didn't come into the children of israel's homes were because of the blood of the lamb. It was the blood that protected them. The blood of christ protects you.

I hope your still reading this long message and I hope something has sunken in. if you need to IM me it's mfgdeux. God bless you.

As it seems many who have responded to this question are Christian let me give you another perspective from someone who has really read the bible and studied Christianity but found it was not my pathway.
Of the sins you mentioned those are sins designated by man these are not sins mentioned in the bible. As for the only sin you can not be forgiven is the sin of not believing (blasphemy is forgiven if you are truely repentant). The whole thing of repentance is where many Christians show the ignorance of their understanding of what is written in the bible. If you do not repentant (which means to quit the sin you are committing, never to do it again and ask for forgiveness) then you can not be forgiven.
Personally I think many of the so called sins were established by the church to control their parishioners' and in that way make money (read the history of Christianty and what I said is right there for all to know). I honestly cannot believe that any true God would condemn a person to firey torment for ethernity for cussing, having sex out of wedlock, etc. Now killing, being a war monger, child molester, stealing from the poor, being prejudges (this includes race, religion (all religions, socio-economic), abuse of power, you know the real nasty vices, these are things that will be a one-way ticket to the firey pit (if you believe in such a thing).
Here is the rule of thumb I live by. Be the best person you can be every moment of your life. Help those in need. Be kind, caring and understanding of your fellow wo/man. Do good things that make the world a better place and be happy. Here is the credo of my faith "Do as you will as long as it harms none". If everyone lived by this motto then there would be no need for hell.
Blessed Be

Ok first of all God is very forgiving. Now because we are not perfect we sin and we sin everyday. If we ask God forgiveness about our sins like cussing, premarital sex etc and if we really mean it and we are really sincere and serious that we want to change our life and then God will forgive us and will help us to get through it, period no questions ask.

It's really easy to ask forgiveness without being seriously with it and that tends to us to do the same sin, everyday!

There's a song that has a lyrics of "As far is the heaven is above the earth so Great is the Father's love. As far is east is from the west so far that he's taking our sins from us"

Good question. God can only forgive us when we receive His payment for our sins, which is Jesus the Christ. He died on the cross in our place because we deserve death. We receive God's love and forgiveness when we turn from our sins and receive His Son as our Lord and Savior. After we do this, God gives us the gift of the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost gives us the power to remain free from our sins and become the Children of God. If we continue to live in sin, then it means that we do not have the Holy Spirit or we refuse to be obedient to the Holy Spirit. Either way, this life style leads to eternal separation from God.

Read the Holy Bible for yourself, get a New Living translation which is written in plain modern English. Because you have your facts wrong. The answers are there for the reading.

You have free will to commit sin, but you can not choose the consequences, you can be forgiven, but you will still pay the consequences. So do good so you will get good back. Study the Bible so you can find the wisdom to live your life.

If you commit any sin and you are ready to accept your sin whole heartily before a person or some hidden power, then sociologically your burden of sin became less or sometimes you feel very comfortable that you have not committed any sin. In such situation person do not commit again any sin. This we can term as "God forgiveness".While you do not believe on God and you feel free from sin by accepting your sin in yourself and do not commit again any sin of that type. Then sociologically your mind do not have any type of weight of that error or sin then you can say" Forgiveness" by yourself. In both the cases: "Forgiveness" exit.

No matter the sin we should always ask forgiveness. We should grow in holiness everyday and as Catholics we do this by going to Church (recieving the Eucharist) visiting the blessed sacrament, reading Scripture, etc. We should know that we are sinners but we should always pray for God's grace that he may help us through temptation so that we do not fully deliberatly sin again. God Bless!

We are punished for our sins while living in that we have to live with the consequences of our actions. Punishment at the judgment is reserved for those who have not repented of their sins and received Christ as Lord and Savior.

A sin that is committed regularly is an unrepented sin.

A sin is only forgiven when you repent. It then is as far away from Him as east is to west. But to repent you don't just say it, you have to mean it in your heart and soul. If you are trying to walk a path of enlightenments then you know that if you are repenting for them but keep doing them, then it isn't true repentance.
You have to want forgiveness before you can ask for it.

God forgives you for your sins when you truly repent, it is forgotten and your slate is clean. It doesn't mean you're not going to face the consequences of your actions and it doesn't mean its God punishing you. You are the one responsible for your own actions. Yes, he is a loving God =)
