I've been reading up on LDS ("Mormon") questions because I'm LDS, and there's just as much misinformation as information. People don't cite sources, spout out opinions, and condemn each other to eternal doom.

Why would you ask random people from any background about religion instead of going to the source? Since religion carries eternal weight, shouldn't you get credible information?
Why don't you people visit their meetings and talk to people about their religions, instead of reading anyone's ideas from the internet?

By the way, yes, I do talk to other people about their religions even though I steadfastly know my church is true. I'm always open to learn about other beliefs.

To em87
I think its pitiful that you don't cite your sources and spout off opinions...exactly like I criticized in this question.

I agree. If someone wanted a serious answer, then they would go to the source.

Many people seem to post a rhetorical statement disguised as a question on Y!A in order to stir up debate, not really to learn.

Other people are not really sure where else to turn, since they are not familiar with any official source for their religion.

And a few are really here to ask for valid opinions of random people.

===edit===

I'm not LDS, by the way.

Dear Rufus,
Do you put your beliefs to the test? 2 Timothy 3:16
In In the united states alone there are over 500 religions and this would be an impossible task in searching for the truth?
However when these groups put in writing their beliefs you can test what they believe by comparing their recorded thoughts to God's all out authority of his true word.
A good example is Christianity's hellfire Doctrine?
What does your religion and your personal beliefs say as to this Doctrine? gemhandy@hotmail.com

Maybe they have nowhere else to turn? If they are kids they can't get to a meeting. Young people are always on the computer, and that is their natural source of info.

then what are you asking, and you honestly believe joseph smith, a man convicted and admitted to defrauding citizens found a book written on gold plates, which he would not show to anyone or they would die from the sight of it. But he was illiterate? So how did he read them? Oh yeah did you know that 25 thousands words are taken directly from the old testament? This is the most obvious form of fraud Ive ever seen, and is the easiest religion to dismantle

I have learned much about my fellow man in the little time I've spent honing my computer awareness skills, and reading and hearing the rhetoric.

There are a small number of honest seekers here.

There are a large number of really dumb, really bored people here.

I pick on the latter while I wait for the former.
