It seems like people are often just rushing through the questions in order to rack up points and reach new levels, or try to get thumbs up. If these "status" indicators were eliminated and people were only here to learn, intelligently argue, and/or help, don't you think the quality of both the questions and answers would increase? Does anyone over 13 years old really care about points and levels?

I agree with you. When I first found out about this site, I thought it was serious and I tried answering the questions as seriously as possible. However, as I became more familiar with it, I realized that many of the questions didn't really mean anything.

However, I do agree with you. If there were no status indicators, this would be a far more intellectual forum.

You have a good point. I just joined this recently and have already noticed how the Q & A has become more of a blogging site or place to play around.

There would probably be less participation incentive if those things were eliminated.

But yes, the quality would probably go up.

And yea, people over 13 years old do care about points. The more points a person gets on here, the more they feel they are qualified to answer questions.

Now i gotta hurry up to answer all the questions i can to reach the question answering limit before midnight, because at midnight the limit of questions i can answer resets and i can't roll over the lefover answering numbers from today so i'd lose my chance to gain more points, get to level 2 and be able to answer more questions in a day :(

ok, just kidding . . . or am I?

Would the quality of Q&A's get better.. NO
I don't care about points, I do like the higher levels to ask and answer more questions.
If everyone had unlimited Q&A's then the trolls would be able to bombard everyone until they finally got reported enough to get deleted, as it is now a level one troll can only ask 5 questions and give 10 answers. A real troll won't last much more than that.

I can only speak for myself, but I do learn from questions and answers .

Points , levels and thumbs are just things to may answers fun . If they didn't have them here , not sure if you would have people participating , then again you may have more verbal fighting, if there isn't enough now , with trolls and cloning. who knows ?

If I think the question is intelligent , I usually give it a star, that's what the stars are for ( and there is no points given nor taken)
Yahoo is not suppose to be taken so seriously, we are all here to have fun, but in the same sense not pick fights with one another here either .

I agree that we would most likely be rid of the childish, hasty answers if Yahoo did away with the points system. There really are some good questions and great answers on here, but sometimes it's hard to find them when we have to weed through so many bad ones.

Yes. I think the thumbs are stupid. Either way they do not make an answer right or wrong. I hate that fact that answers can be hidden. Why are we trying to hide anything? What is anybody afraid of other than someone actually made a point that might be worth considering?

? no longer every person could have the comparable opinion on each thing. perchance a thumbprint may well be effective to avert blatant abuse. Stars are identifiable to all via avatars shown. however the owners of thumbs are in ordinary terms usual to the Y!A group. i will no longer be able to help yet ask your self whether a thumb historic previous is likewise reviewed whilst investigating a achieveable violation. all of the thumbs down listed right here are evidence which you have an exceedingly valid viewpoint !!!

I like the way its set up .Its always nice to see thumbs up not down. And the points take to long to rush to get so answering questions and giving thumbs up or down or reporting them is all for fun to make the time go by until you reach a level.

I don't really care about the points but i dont want to run out either so i do keep track of them. If their were no points then it wouldn't matter to me.

I guess the Thumbs only show that people agree with you.
