Don't feed it, and don't let your kids play with it. It will wonder off eventually. There are also cat/animal shelters to take it to, or take it to someone else's house, but don't let them see you.

Well, you can take it to the shelter, but let me tell you one thing. There was this cat that came, (I thought it was a stray, the other family living here said it's the neighbor's cat.. apparently it likes to venture around O_o ) and I feed it and stuff. I am already bonded with it only on the 3rd day. Very sweet. Although I'm going to be sad when it goes back, it's alright, 1 week, 2 week is enough for me. The other lady that lives here doesn't really like it, but really, understand your kid's feelings too, sometimes. (I just put myself for example) You can take it to a shelter (non profit + no kill) and let others adopt or raise it under your care. Good luck. Check if anyone in your area raises the cat, you might accidently put it in the shelter. (Just like my situation)

Please don't drive the cat far away and dump it!!! Often times outdoor cats that appear to be strays actually belong to someone in the area...they just have a sly way of getting free food, sympathy, and attention from neighbors. It would be really unfortunate if you mistakenly took someone else's cat and randomly dropped it off far from its family and its home (even if it turns out to be a stray...your neighborhood may be the only 'home' it knows). If you are really that upset about the cat...just try to ignore it and definitely don't feed it. The cat will eventually take the hint and move on.

Have you tried putting an ad in the "lost & found" section of your paper to find the cat's family? Some papers will post a "found" ad for no charge. There could be someone out there who misses the kitty & has been worrying. If this, or putting out fliers, doesn't yield results, please take him/her to a no-kill shelter. If you can find a way to reunite the cat & the guardian, you're doing a wonderful thing & setting a very positive example for your kids.
I agree with Birdgirl's advice, also.

Find the nearest no kill animal shelter and drop the kitty off there. Explain to your kids that they cant take in every animal that walks to the door. Sometimes you have to let it go. If they get really upset, you could always buy them a hamster or something. Dogs are a big step, build up to that. Good luck!
PS Don't drop the cat off in the middle of no where, that is just cruel.

Yes, that would be wrong. Drive it to the animal shelter instead. Explain to your kids that you can't keep the cat but you are taking it to a place it will be cared for and perhaps its owner can find it there or someone will adopt it.

How cruel that would be to the cat and your kids. If you won't let them keep it at least take it to a no kill shelter. The poor cat found some loving kids who would take care of it. What a shame.

SPCA......... they will take him in.
Or......you could keep him....cat's are not that bad, much more loving and far more independent than dogs. They don't need a lot of attention and are easy to care for. But don't take him away...... find him a home. have some compassion. The kids will learn a good lesson in being kind from it also.

Take it to a local shelter or let your kids keep it. Seems selfish not to let your children enjoy pets just because you don't like them. If you do take it to a shelter, let your kids say goodbye...don't just have the cat disappear one day, the kids will be upset and may resent you one day if they find out what you did.
