I'd like to surprise my husband with a cruise sometime in the next year or two. I was looking at the Eastern Mediterrian cruises that cover Italy, Greece and Egypt. I wasn't sure when the best time to go was though. I'd be nice if it was just outside of the "prime" cruise season so it'd be a little cheaper..

We went in October (5th through 17th) a couple years ago and the weather was just perfect. It was very pleasant during the days, like maybe 75 and also at night. It was pleasant enough to even sit on my balcony at night. WE had a couple days of light showers but no hot weather and not enough rain to cancel any tours. The tourist guides recommend going Sept/Oct to miss the masses of tourists and to get away from the heat of the summer. We went on the RC ship, Brilliance of the Seas. Its a great ship.

The key to getting the best fare is to check the prices for different dates and itineraries as the same cruise can be priced different for each sailing. You also have to decide which countries you want to visit because not all Med cruises are the same. Some ships and lines go to different countries.

You can book your cruise online; they generally have them available for this year and next (07 and 09, even some 09). All that is needed is a deposit or @ $250 for a 7 day cruise and $450 for a 12 to 14 day cruise. You then have until about 45 to 60 days before the cruise to pay the balance. And, if you decide to or need to cancel you can do so without a penalty if you do it 90 days before the cruise; get a full refund.
