Why would God even have a body or a sex? This sounds like more of the early churches male dominance trip. Like yo dudes, God is male so us guys rule and make all the laws, you women; do the cooking.

The reason most people consider God in a masculine scene is because the Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek words used to describe Him are almost always masculine. There are instances in which God is given feminine attributes, but those are rare. Also, in the English language (yes, I know the Bible was not written in English, I'm just talking about for translational purposes) if the gender of someone is unknown, the person is referred to as a "he."

There are descriptions of God in scripture and artists have attempted to render them into an image.

We know that He is a Father so He is commonly portrayed as a fatherly type of figure, with great wisdom and of course elderly because He is from before the beginning of time, technically if He had a beard it would be of an infinite length. We also, know that God made Man in His own image.

God is neither male nor female.

God cannot be "discovered" by normal means. Since he is entirely outside our senses and our universe, the only way we can know about him is if he reveals himself to us.

God has revealed himself to us in the Bible. When he inspired the biblical writers to write, he used masculine pronouns to describe himself.

At the same time when it is said that God created humans "in his image" the full context is "God created humans in his image: male and female he created them". So the "image" of God is tied up in our two genders. God is both male and female, while at the same time he is neither. He definitely isn't one or the other. He's both or neither.

Women were intended to work alongside men. In the Garden of Eden God gave identical tasks to both the man and the woman. They were to be coregents over creation.

As a result of the fall, God placed women under men's dominance. But if you read carefully he also said men would be farmers and toil to produce a crop, and women would have pain in childbearing. We have developed to where we don't all have to be farmers and most of us have plenty to eat. Women have the choice of drugs to make childbearing more tolerable.

So we've mitigated the consequences of the fall pretty effectively. There's no reason why we can't also get past the male-domination thing and return to a Garden of Eden-like state where men and women work side by side to accomplish their goals.

Humans equate wisdom with age. Wizards are always portrayed in this fashion also. Long white hair and beard just look like someone who is wise, knowledgeable and more than capable. A man of honor is what you should strive to be rather than being a pig where women are concerned.

Why does God having a percieved "gender" have to be chauvanistic?

To say that men and women fall under specified labels is archaic and useless.

We work together, we build families, society, etc together, just the way we were created.

Jesus Himself even said, "Our FATHER....." that means the Son of God was declaring a "gender" to God....otherwise Mary wouldnt have been the mother of Jesus.

Well, in order to fit the idea they were marketing to the masses, the entity they created to control people had to be "old" (wisdom comes with age); so they had to make God look old by human standards (God may be 40,000,000,000,000,000+ years old, but might only look like God is 21 as a normal human would perceive God).

Because he is our Father. In order to be conceived, it requires a Father and a Mother. There is nothing chauvenistic in that. Men were given responsibilities and so were women.
Because I am a man does that mean I am chauvenist?
You are stereotyping me without knowing me and speaking of which; Are you a man or a woman? Your picture is of a man but your question sounds like you are a bitter woman who hates men.
Edit: The funniest thing about these answers is that even the ones who are claiming that He has no gender, refer to Him as a man.

I am not sure about that either?? but...I think each person,race,etc..interprets God however they want..which is usually similar to their race..like, I have heard some african americans say that in the bible (which I can't vouch for, since I havent read it all..) it says that God had hair like cotton..so, they assume he was black..but I think as long as we have some type of faith, that its okay to interpret it, the bible, etc. however we like..if we want to pray to a white, black, hispanic, asian God..its all the same..as long as we realize that God, however he may have looked, died for our sins and loves us all equally and blesses us with many, many blessings every day.

Man created god. Historically women have been in a subservient role, and the patriarchal culture designed a god in their own image.
