I know 12 month deployments have been extended to 15. But, can the army keep a soldier longer than 15 months if they suddenly decide to do so? Or, is 15 the max?

Unfortunately, when a soldier signs a contract with the Army, they basically sign over all control of thier lives for the next 8 years to the Army. So the answer is yes, they can and probably will extend tours to 18 or even 24 months.

Personally I think it's FUBAR that the Army is taking the bulk of the weight of this war. Marines (supposed to be the first ones in and the last ones out...) only have 7-8 month deployments and don't even get me started on the Navy and Air Force. Seems to me they could at least share some of the burden placed on our soldiers. But, that's just typical.

That's the current buzz around the Army is that soldiers may get extended out to 18 month deployments.
There is no max as long as soldiers still have time in their enlistment and even then the rules are fuzzy. If they were to enact the draft, they could simply not bring them back (this wouldn't fly with the public, but it could in theory be done)
It's sad, in ten years we won't have a military, all the soldiers will have given into fatigue

it is totally up to the army, a 15 could turn into a 17 and so on. my man is over there for 12 months...but it will probably get extended also.

yeap. they of course try very hard not to, since the financial repercussions are huge, but if it needs to happen, it will happen.

FYI, Amanda, the Navy at least IS beginning to pick up some of the slack. the Individual Augmentee Program is in full swing. I personally know of several Naval Personnel who are 12 month or longer deployments and stationed with an Army unit.

In WWI and WWII, soldiers served until the end of the war.

Yes they can be extended, but the goal is to reduce them back to 12 month rotations.

nicely, I purely found out somewhat in the past that i'm now going to be prolonged one greater 3 months.. i'm purely hitting the six month mark of being deployed. 3 months isn't possibly that long i assume.. yet after no longer seeing your loved ones for thus long, you somewhat start to anticipate that redeployment date... And it truly sucks while this is stretched yet another 3 months. Why is it purely the army however? Has every person observed the army does issues way differant than the different branches? (won't improve to greater helpful autos, won't approve greater helpful weapons) I ought to have joined the Marines.. (in basic terms seven month rotations)

They are no rules on how long you are allowed to stay out of country. The only thing ive ever heard of is that they can only keep you for the actual amount of days you have in your contract including your inactive reserve time.Even then its the military they can flip it on you and keep you longer.

Sadly yes they can they can technically keep them over there as long as they want to. 15 can become 18 or even 24 it is all needs of the military and as long as they need them or want them there

Needs of the Army, they can do whatever they need to to accomplish the mission. It all depends on the situation and the circumstances though.
