My 5 girls use to crack me up with some of the things they did. My father in-law use to own a honda dealership and my husband would take 2 of the girls with him there. They'd bring dolls, pick out their favorite car, and spend HOURS pretending to drive their babies around. They loved going. "Daddy's going to visit grandpa at work, who wants to go?" People would come and look into their car and they'd go "Nope, this is ours. Go ask my grandpa for another one."
My oldest daughter went through a period where she pretended to be a cop and have a pretend "side kick". I remember walking down the street with her and she'd yell at people who were smoking or threw trash on the ground. Then she'd discuss these issues with her imaginary friend.
Another time, the girls wanted to get a dog so they made my youngest pretend to be one for an entire day to prove they could take care of one. That was an interesting day.
They're now 21, 18, 17, 15 & 12. They grow up too fast.

Mine still does some days. Not all day, but she'll dress up in her apron and play "restaurant", or get out her fancy clothes, or her Harry Potter costume, and play pretend in it. I think it's cute that she still does this, and is getting close to 8. She has a great imagination.

What normal, happy child doesn't? The innocence and greatness of childhood. Either from the little boy tying a towel or blanket around him and pretending he is superman or batman to the little girl with the baby doll and rocking chair pretending they are caring, life-giving mothers. I think not only is it great and healthy; but it nurtures imagination and also helps them later in life in either in a little or big way. Especially geared towards family life. It may sound crazy, but with the boy pretending he is a superhero. He kind of subconsciously adopts that as he thinks of himself a hero and if he is brought up right and healthy, he will take that protective and goodness into family life with him. As the little girl who pretends the baby doll she is rocking back and forth and feeding the bottle to helps her for later on in life to become a nurturing and loving mother. See how it all ties in? What seems like games and imagination also is self-taught lessons for them if they are kept on the right path by their parents and surrounding responsible, loving adults.

My girls are the QUEENS of pretend. My seven year old has a toy cell phone, which she talks on constantly. It sounds as if she's really on the phone with someone, and it's pretty freaky. If I ask her something, she tells her imaginary friend to hold on a sec, then apologizes when she gets back to them. She also stages fashion shows with all of her glitzy dress-up outfits and does impromptu rock concerts.
My four year old is a pirate. She is obsessed with Captain Jack, and dresses in her Halloween pirate costume nearly every day. She wanted to wear it to pre-school too, but I talked her out of it. I will let her wear it to the store though. Praise their amazing imagination. Feed it! Play with them from time to time! And thank God you don't have a dull, lifeless child who just sits an stares at the television.

I wouldn't say they wear them throughout the day, but they do tend to make fun out of anything they can get their little hands on.
Aside from don't worry about this, you can rejoice in the fact that their play time is one of the last wonderful and sweet sources of joy on this old earth.

My two year-old will wear just about anything on his head. Buckets, hats, etc. He also pretends to make food and serves people (Probably because I am in the food service industry)

Of course. When my middle son was younger, I took him to my husbands office who is a computer engineer. He played around on my husbands for a while, watched him push a bunch of buttons at a fast speed and became fascinated. For weeks, he carried around this little play computer and kept swipping the calculator from my husbands home office, sit and push a bunch of numbers, pretending to be a "puter gin-ear."
My youngest son, who is currently three, loves batman and the idea of me being pregnant with "HIS" baby sister. He loves running around the house with his batman gloves and caring around this baby doll. He has an imaginary "wife" who takes care of his baby when he goes to school. It's cute. He'll want to go play outside and I'll tell him "Ok, but you can't bring the baby outside." and he'll go "Hold on a sec Mommy, I'll give it to my wife." The things they come up with.
Best wishes =]
