Rival makes a basic bucket/motor model that is really great! We've had ours for years, my mom has had hers for years, it works great and should only run you about $20, you might even be able to find one on clearance since the summer stuff is on the way out- check wal-mart for the best deals on them. It comes all packed in a box with everything but the rock salt!!

I don't know if there's any difference but I do know that it's way easier to just buy what you like from your local market. Tried makin it way back when -- what a bunch of unnecessary labor. Between all the great varieties available... what's the point? Threw out my maker ages ago... Maybe you should ask around your friends and family to see who's got one in their cupboard wasting space... it's one of those things that sounds great when you buy it and after a while you're like...uhhh...whatever... I'll just go for Ben n Jerry's or Breyers and I'm good to go....

Here in Florida USA...I shop at super Wal-mart and I purchase the brand called "Blue Bunny". When I was there last time I bought some for $3.12 and the flavor was "peanut butter fudge" it's great and it was " no sugar added" since we have to watch our sugar intake....
Hurry and get some before I get the next carton...lol...

Breyer's, Carvel- & Blue Bunny. (No, I'm NOT kidding... Making homemade Ice Cream is just TOO expensive!)
