The molecular bonds in food products do not yield high amounts of energy when broken down. Therefore, the energy contained in food is released within cells and stored in the form of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), a high-energy compound created by cellular energy-production systems. Carbohydrates are metabolized and used to produce ATP molecules through a process called glycolysis. Simple carbohydrates are metabolized quicker then complex carbohydrates, because of their molecular make-up. Moving on. Part of the metabolic pathway is the citric acid cycle. It is the third step in carbohydrate metabolism, or the breakdown of sugars. Glycolysis breaks glucose down into pyruvate. Pyruvate moves into the mitochondria (mitochondria are the cells power source). It is converted into acetyl-CoA by decarboxylation and enters the citric acid cycle otherwise known as the Kreb cycle. The Kreb Cycle is what your body goes through to convert carbohydrates, fats and proteins into carbon dioxide and water to generate energy your body can use. It is responisble for carb catabolism and ATP production, or energy production. So, your body is constantly creating and using energy. The used energy is stored as glycogen in the liver. Hunger is a feeling experienced when the glycogen level of the liver falls below a threshold, usually followed by a desire to eat. The usually unpleasant feeling originates in the hypothalamus and is released through receptors in the liver. Although an average nourished human can survive weeks without food intake, the sensation of hunger typically begins after several hours without eating. Hunger pains are caused by stomach contractions. Psychological and emotional triggers aside the feeling of hunger is telling you to eat, but not to over eat. It can take up to 20 minutes for your body to recognize the food you ate.

Simple carbohydrates are usually considered to be "bad" carbs, but these are those that have been processed and broken down before being put back together again in an unnatural way such as to produce a sweet product like chocolate. Natural simple carbohydrates are the best carbs to include in the diet, especially if trying to lose weight.

You feel hungrier faster because the carbs is a fast easy energy source for us but the moment it's gone your pooped. Where as decent food that takes longer for you to digest is a better energy source because it lasts longer.

I have one whole chapter on your question in my blog. http://lclfhfhpwhataboutsugar.blogspot.com
Technical issues made simple.

Another chapter on the effects of sugar on our body. http://lclfhfhpmoreonsugar.blogspot.com

Briefly it is to do with the effects of insulin on our body, not lacking in energy. Because you feel hungry, you are deceived in eating more.
