It nice to see you plan for your sister brithday, well, thru your notes, i believe she is those mumbling and never satisfy type of woman, but i also believe she dun really mean it, just her way of life.
So, make a big poster or have a big cake written something like this, "Dearest Sister, Happy 50th birthday from ALL." then below state, "Remember, WE LOVE YOU VERY MUCH AND PLEASE FORGIVE US IF WE DID NOT DO WELL" then all of you hug her and feel the warmth of love.
Hope she cool down and feel the emotion of love in her with tears.
In advance, Happy birthday to your sister.

When I turned fifty my sister and my daughters planned it and it came out very well and I had a great time and I usually hate crowds even if they are family. If she has a family of her own ask her husband or partner and her children and than let them use some of their idea's and if she can't be happy because everything isn't as she would have planed it suggest after the party that she gets help for her control issue.

Does she work anyplace? Have this announcement on the intercom right before she leaves to go home. (her name, the OATS bus is here for you now)..ha!
For the party...make some place mats of a collage of some of her pictures as a child, sr pic and a funny one or two...put together on computer...print...people love to sit down to meal and see all the pics of her...good conversation topics. who cares if it is printed on plain white typing paper or whatever. You can take them into the restaurant. Put her picture on the birthday cake. Make a cool powerpoint show of her...that's fun. play a game called "Who knows the 50 yr old Best...have all guests fill out form with questions like
1. ____ is her favorite color
2. ____ age when she got her first kiss
3. ____ color of her bedroom
and so forth...then call her up..let her answer the questions and everyone check their papers...winner get 50 m & M's
play music from the 50's...or everyone could dress of that time...hmmm
Hope some of these ideas help or at least cause you to create from them. Your sis is lucky to have you for a sis..good luck with the party..what time shall i arrive? ha!

Maybe a 60's hippie be-in--did she participate at all? Find the music from back then, tell everyone to wear clothing that looked like from back then, get pictures of her from back then and blow them up real big (we thought we were to hip but looking at them now, I always wonder "what was I thinking????! I can't believe I went out in public dressed like that....) Put sunflower seeds and granola in wood bowls instead of other munchies. See if anyone still has their lava lamps and black light. Have everyone do the dances from back then. Etc.

hmmm, I am struck by the tone of your question. It sounds like your relationship w/ your sister is not very good. Why are you planning her party if so? If it's true that she is so particular and difficult to please, don't leave anything to chance. Ask her, directly, what she wants and do everything precisely as she says.

Throw her a "50 years ago" party. The theme is what was happening in the year she was born.
(*shrug*) If she's that fussy, you'll never make her happy. So, make it easy on yourself and fun. Either she enjoys it, or not. Her option.
