choice is so different than free will. Free will is a choice without any outside influences such as religion.

Those are sins. But we can still do what we want. Is anyone forcing you to do anything? Well, if you have to choice to do right or wrong, that is free will.

I think you do not understand the whole concept of a "free will". "Freedom" means "without constraint" or "without control", not "released from responsibility".

A creature with a free will has the ability to make moral choices: good or bad, pure or impure, right or wrong, etc. Now, obviously there have to be things to choose between, or the point is moot. It also doesn't do any good to give a creature the ability to make a choice, and then deny that creature the intellect and knowledge about the choices given to them!

This is where the 10 Commandments come in. Waaaaay back in the day, the progenitors of Humanity chose to know good and evil, and promptly FORGOT THE DIFFERENCE. God, not wanting us to stumble around in life without a clue, gave us several messages through His prophets on what "right" and "wrong" really are.

The 10 Commandments are NOT a contradiction to Free Will. They are the manual for informed consent!

How does he contradict himself? In what way? Examine the rules (laws) that God gave Moses and then examine your heart. How close are those laws to your heart in the way that you think of things through a right and wrong process? Do you believe that adultry is right in any society? Do you think killing is correct? These rules are actually written on your heart (and once on stone tablets of course per the story of Moses). Now God, does not anticipate you will follow these laws. As a matter of fact, God has given us so many chances, that His final grace (covenant) is through our Lord Jesus. With the death of Christ, God redeemed you and I through His blood. So the laws, although they still exist, are actually rights and wrongs that everyone shares regardless of the 10 commandements being written on stone or anything. Just keep in mind that the truth is Jesus. He is the straight and narrow path that leads to heaven. I pray that this touches your heart in some way that would allow God to reveal all truth to you.

you still have free will whether or not to follow those. in a way those are just guidelines that if you follow will bring you salvation and happiness

like just an average teen stated above, a parent can give a kid a curfew, and then a car with wich he has a better oppurtunity to BREAK the curfew...but does that automatically mean the kid is going to get home past his curfew? he still has a choice how to USE his car doesnt he?

my point exactly. I always said that god created sins and christian on here always tell me that I'm wrong and god didnt create sins. well he created the 10 commandments which list various sins. well hes the one who decided they were sins. if he didnt make up these things as being sins then we couldnt sin now could we? god is a hypocrite. he gives us the ability to do these things, give us free will to choose, but punishes us if we choose to do them. well screw that! id rather enjoy life now then worry about being good so I can get into a heaven when nobody knows it even exists.

God tries to guide His children to be the best they can be. Like any good parent, you have to set your children free to be their own person and hope that they follow your teachings. This is what I believe

I suppose it is no different than a parent giving her child a curfew and then giving her child a car with which to break curfew....if you want to think of it like that?

It is free will, you can believe them and do them and be blessed in all you do or reject them and be cursed in all you do
