I'm 19 years old and have to get my wisdom teeth out. They all will need stiches, three are poking out slightly and one in completly impacted. My dad got his out, the two tops pulled he was fine then my best friend just got hers done today and is feeling horrible. She was knocked out IV and everything. The way I see it I'm going to be numb anyway and I'm fine with needles. I could really care less about vibrations, pushing, sounds and other sensations as long as I can't feel the pain of them comming out. Plus it will be half the cost of going to have an oral surgen do it. I trust my dentist and he's really good. He's not giving me any anethesia just numbing me up and giving me some good pain meds. I would be in pain afterwards if I went to a surgen anyways. Does anyone have experience in doing this in the dentists office? Or any dentist willing to give some advice? You think they could numb me again before I left so it would last longer or is too much novacane bad for you?

If you are not squeamish about the sound, vibration, drill...then have no fear. The dentist will freeze you up well. You won't feel pain, but there is an odd pressure feeling that you will experience. Having done many, many of these, if the patient is relaxed about the procedure, then it is a piece of cake. Typical anesthetic lasts 3-4 hours. You could check and see if the dentist can use a 10-12 hour an aesthetic (Marcaine), but I don't know if this is really better. Being numb for that long you run the risk of biting your cheeks or tongue. I would just relax and you said your dentist is good, so trust him to take care of you.

If you REALLY trust your dentist (like you have been a patient for a long time) and he said he could do it then it will more than likely be ok. Its just that sometimes the wisdom teeth are buried into the jaw bone on bottom and they require a bit more work for regular dentists so they like to refer to a specialty. There are risks whether u go to general dentist or oral surgeon. The pain is different with every person depending on how complicated. But truthfully a lot of general dentists don't like to do wisdom teeth anymore because of liability and it can take up too much of their time :)

I was awake for my wisdom tooth surgery. Two were impacted and two were not. I would say, if your impacted teeth are on the bottom - opt for a surgeon and general anesthesia. The pain of the extraction and cutting is numbed, but the pressure on the jaw as they hold it open and get leverage to pull can be EXCRUCIATINGLY PAINFUL. Granted, I have a small mouth.

However, if you trust your dentist - trust him on this, too.

I had mine removed in a dentists office, using local anesthesia.I did not have any problems and I had all four removed. If they give you a good dose of painkiller, you won't need another shot of it.
If you trust your dentist,go ahead and let him do it.
I believe that mine were impacted, but I did not have any major pain afterwards.

You asked this 10 hours ago. They could give you more Novocaine, but too much of it will give you the shakes TERRIBLY.

I could not have anyone cut into my gums while I was awake. That impacted tooth is going to hurt like HELL. You are going to wish you'd had anesthesia.
