Just saw something on TV showing young men and women entering the Naval Academy in Baltimore. Those who were wearing glasses seemingly weren't wearing their own -- they each had HUGE glasses on. What's the deal? Thanks.

Gotcha. Now, if you have contacts, can you wear those instead?

Nope no contacts in BT // Not in BT in any branch, after you can wear what you want.

Like others have said before they are called Birth Control Glasses. Not really, but once you see yourself in them you will understand why. Really though it really doesn't matter. You wont give a damn what you look like. You wont be there to impress anyone with your looks.

It just depends on what your looking for out of a military career whether to choose the Air Force or Navy. Expect to see a lot more of the world in the Navy, but dont think you wont get your fare share of deployments in the Air Force.

BCG's were the HEIGHT of fashion in the 1950's... sadly, the military never sought another contract !!

Yes, ONE style for everyone (no individuality, Uniformity) ! They are also built to last !

I got through Basic, Aircrew, SAR and my training... in fact I made it to 26 yrs old until I had to get glasses. The Navy STILL issued me a pair of BCG's ! Though, I did get issued the classic wire-rim flight glasses the next week.

I STILL have the BCG's in my dresser for emergencies and get the prescription updated along with my regular specs and shades.

The glasses are so that there are no individuals in boot, just one unit. And sorry no contacts in boot camp. Not unless you can get them approved by the Med Doc. Good luck and remember it's coed now. Keep it in

Military glasses are built to take a beating...its common sense...it also serves a dual role as a birth control device

They are real thick to take a beating and your not allow to wear contacts because you dont really have the pleasure to tell the enemy wait i think i lost a contact. And you not going to be able to see when you put on a gas mask or flight helmet.

Standard issue military glasses. In the Army we called them birth control glasses. (they make you so ugly, no one would want to have sex with you.)

BCG's you only have to wear them during basic training, then you'll be able to put your civilian glasses back on.
