just had a quick question I thought you could answer. I've been hearing about the conversion of all analog Tv to digital Tv and i just wanted to know if this conversion will be good or bad for the large television networks, satellite and cable companies? and what options will consumers have as the conversion approaches? and how do you personally think that this conversion will change television programming?

It will have no effect on satellite tv reception,in other words the standard tv you now use to watch DirecTv or Dishnetwork will still work .It is over the air broadcast signals that will change and since the signal from satellite is already changed to a digital format it won't be affected by the changeover. As far as the changes to programming it will give the local stations more flexability in what and how they broadcast, for example they can have multiple shows from one station channel 13-1 13-2 13-3 and so on.One local station in my area haas one channel that carries regular broadcast and another one for weather radar.

Well first of all I wouldn't stress over it. They've had deadlines similar to this for quite some time (everything will be digital by 2004, 2006, 2009...) Truth be told there is still too high a demand for analog cable. I'd be surprised if more than 15% of the country had tv's w/ a digital tuner (even many HDTV's don't have a built in tuner).

Once we DO switch over, I would imagine there will be several digital to analog boxes being sold. The winners will most likely be electronics companies building them. I wouldn't expect the cable companies or sat companies to be affected, most already offer digital anyways.

It simply means you will have to up grade to a digital TV. The vast majority of people have a digital TV now.
