l'm going to be a first time (foster) parent in about 6 weeks, and l really want to be careful of their diet. l know some treats are fine for kids, and l'll probably make a lot of my own foods like biscuits or cupcakes. But how often is it ok for kids to eat McDonalds or Burger King? My family goes with their kids once a week as a big get together, and l want to be able to take mine as well. ls this ok?

I would say once a week is fine, just encourage them to pick the "healthier" foods on the menu. The apple dippers, milk, chicken nuggets and sandwiches, salads. Explain that too much fast food and junk food is not healthy and eating lots of it leads to serious health problem latter in life.
When eating at home just get them to at least try a wide range of healthy foods, fruits, veggies, natural foods. Giving treats once in a while won't hurt anything.
Young kids who's parents let them eat anything they want are not teaching good eating habbits and setting them up for problems like diabetes, heart disease, obestiy and such latter on in life. So set a good example of what to eat.

Whatever you want to do is fine. Depending on the age of the children they may only be use to take out and junk food from their parents. The quantity of junk food you choose to give your children is your choice even with foster kids, the foster system is trusting you to care for the kids. Once a week is a great ideal!

I think once a week is fine! As for the junk food... don't even keep it in the house! Offer healthy snacks... fruits, veggies, crackers, pretzels. As long as kids are eating plenty of healty foods, a treat once in a while is not going to hurt anything!

I used to go to McDonalds every week. But this, is bad. I mean, it's not too bad. But I mean come on, do you want to go on the show "Honey we're killing the kids"? I'm not at all trying to sound rude, but, too much junk food increases the rates of diabetes. My aunt had died from that, and it passed down to my mother. I think you should try to put the rateof fast food or somehting down to every 2 weeks.

i think once a week is ok but no more than that. it may cause them on a bad eating habit at an early habit. i have a cousin who made the mistake of giving her son mcdonalds when he was a todler so then he really liked it and begs for it. but she is breaking this habit before its too late to stop.

Yes that is fine as long as it stays at once a week, for them to look forward to or as a treat or reward. But if they arnt behaving then dont reward them.

As long as you aren't feeding them the junk every day they will be fine. Don't worry, you'll do great. I commend all those out there who take in the less fortunate children.

Once a week sounds okay. I would suggest getting chocolate milk over soda, and apple dippers over french fries.
