1 : voluntary choice or decision
2 : freedom of humans to make choices that are not determined by prior causes or by divine intervention

1. Christians say that God gave free will, yet he created the 10 commandments to follow.
For example: If I choose not to steal because the 10 commandments say so, then I am not using my free will.

2. Christians say God gives free will, yet pray for divine intervention to happen. For example; praying for a fireman to save people in a burning building without the fireman's consent is not free will.

3. Babies don't believe in God, so this denies free will also. Now Now... don't argue, theres a place babies go called Limbo. Oh I forgot... the Pope deleted it.

Free will? Yes, humans have free will.

Free will is to have the ability to make choices.

Animals can make choices too to some extent but not as humans.

There is a lot of debate about free will right now on these boards in various places.

Here is a theological one: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AgnIuVJjnam7.wD_X9hNuQPsy6IX?qid=20070704182005AA9k3or&show=7#profile-info-26EFlW6Faa

#1 Commandments are the things that God said do or don't do.
We are free to choose to follow or not follow these.

#2 A firefighter entering a burning building is probably choosing to save lives? This is the firefighter's will and a Christian may ask God to assist this action.
If a fireman Does not choose to enter a building and it is God's will that people are saved then this will come about in a different way.

#3 Few, if any, know exactly how or what is in the mind of a babe except for God. If God chooses to be in the mind of a babe then He will be.
Here is a couple of interesting bible verses:
Luke 1:
41 And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:
42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
_____________________________________________
Here the babe in Elizabeth's womb lept for joy as Mary who was pregnant with Jesus came close.

This was the recognition of a baby in the womb of God's son!

The 10 commandments are the book of rules (analogy) Rules of the Road. Follow them or suffer the consequences. This is free will.
A fireman gives his consent when he becomes a fireman. The prayer is for all to be saved from that burning building/ There is your free will.
We are all children of God, even you. When a child turns 7yrs old, it is said, that is when they have the power to reason. That is when there free will can be expressed.
And finally, limbo wasn''t just a place for babies to go, it was a stepping stone for one last chance to atone for your sins. The pope, who has the authority to make that decision, thought it would be better if we atoned for our sins on earth. Here on earth is our limbo.

Do I want to answer this question or not? I do not have to. I am not compelled to answer. I choose to answer. that is free will. --------------------------EDIT--------... Neither is "eternal punishment" true. Jehovah God does not torture. He grants life, disiplines or he kills. He never tortures. At Jeremiah 7:31, we see humans sacrificing their children by throwing them into a fire. Jehovah is as shocked as he could be saying, he never even considered this happening. You wanted an example to show what "free will" is and works. This is exactly that. For every action we take, there are always consequences. Lately it seems, people want to choose the bottom feeding choices and expect to never face the consequences for bad choices. No matter how much they wish it to happen, those consequences will be faced. That is part of free will too. Answering the question will not effect me much at all. someone reading it may actually understand what it is. Choosing whom we each will serve--Jehovah or Satan--has bigger consequences. Which are eternal life or eternal death. The condition of the dead preclude eternal torture. (Eccles. 9:5, 10; Ps.146:4)

Oh you silly atheists...you claim that you know the Bible better than some Christians, yet you confuse Biblical terms.

Predestination and foreknowledge is the common debate among evangelicals (Calvinists and Arminians). On believes we have Free Will, one believes that we have been predetermined in all of our acts.

I could post a paper I wrote, but it's 17 pages long and well, that'd get some thumbs down. But, if you're interested, just ask me, and I'll be happy to send it.

Christians have a free will to sin or not to sin.
How hard is that to understand.
We pray for others ,but they still pick to live or die .
Yes we pray for the fireman to help, but the fireman still decides to help or not.

Kudos for thinking about this. It's a big one. But your thought process and analogies are skewed. More experience and thinking will clarify much of this for you,
