I know someone who says he was an officer (well, detective) on a police force (Canada) for years. There are quite a few details that he shares that just don't seem to add up to me. Just for my own personal knowing of whether to take him seriously or not, is there an archive that I can access to see if he was, in fact, an officer (detective)?

All cities and most larger towns have computerized records for public information...which this is. Smaller communities and county offices may not be on-line so short of calling the office and inquiring that info may not be availible. Any police officer must take and pass a civil service test and those records are availible to anyone. Taking a civil service exam and being hired on a police force are two different things tho.

Maybe he was and maybe not. Maybe he got fired for a good reason, maybe he resigned.

If you are dating this guy and you are kind of unsure about his background, maybe you need to back off. Now if he is retired, he probably would have a retirees badge or his old ID or something. This sound alot like a come-on line in a bar.

I could be all wrong but I know guys who use similar lines. If he was for real, he can tell you the department he worked for and probably the Chief, address of the place, hire date and leaving date, rate of pay etc. If he cant give you the phone number or wont tell you where he worked because " the memories are too painful" then dump him.

If he's legit and wants ot get to know you he should not mind providing this info.

Where I worked in OH, they did not answer that question for just anyone who called in so not sure if you can get that or not. That could compromise an undercover officer's information so they share very limited info with very limited people.

Contact the region you believe he was employed with and they will be able to verify that he worked there. However, you probably wont be able to get dates of employment or anything more than that employment confirmation without a signed release. But at least you will rest easy that it was a true statment.

Usually employee records of public employees are public information. You can ask for his employee records. They may leave out things such as his address, phone etc. But should be able to tell you his years of employment

Unless they retired after a full career, or were seriously injured and medically retired, anyone who "used to be" a cop and still brags about it is a dirt bag.

Honey, if I only had one last breath. ..One last thing to say to someone about "life" is:
FOLLOW YOUR INSTINCT! That women's intuition that we r gifted with is real!! If your "spidey sense" is tingling...don't ignore it. He's a fake! Mark this case CLOSED!
