"Let's go for a drink!"

Should I say "(IT) sounds good" or "(THAT) sounds good"?

Could you tell me the difference between IT and THAT?

"It" is for the object - so "It sounds good" implies that the drink is the main attraction.
"That" is for the action - so "That sounds good" implies that the going together and getting a drink - that the company - is the main attraction.

You could just say, "Sounds good," and you would be speaking good colloquial English. As between the two examples you posed, I would opt for "That sounds good," because the word "that" more clearly refers to the prior statement of your interlocutor proposing that you both go for a drink, whereas "It sounds good" is less definite in identifying the antecedent statement to which the sentence is responding.

It sounds good is only referring to the drink. That sounds good refers to going for a drink. That's my guess!

THAT sounds good is correct.

The difference is you are commenting on the invitation. That the invitation sounds like a good idea -hence 'That' sounds good or 'That sounds like a good idea.'

I'M not a genius but THAT sounds good is correct because IT is more of a word that reffers to an object that actually sounds good.. or well.

Barb gave a good explanation. In this context, "that" is correct as it refers to the actual invitation. "It" refers to the drink.

I would be inclined to say "That sounds good," since it refers to a specific invitation. "It" is more general. For example, let's imagine this conversation:

"Do you like seafood"

"Yes, it's good."

"How about grilled salmon?"

"That's my favorite."
