Initial treatment for burns will cause for debridment or the removal of destroyed unhealthy tissue.

After the healing is complete procedures such as skin grafts (surgically transplanting healthy skin from another part of the body onto the scarred area), Flap reconstruction or Z-Plasty may be done.

Skin grafts are either full-thickness (FTSG) which consists of both the epidermal and complete dermal skin layers and some fat tissue or split-thickness (STSG) grafts that include two skin layers the full epidermal skin layer and part of the dermal skin layer. Flap reconstruction involves transplanting skin and its accompanying fat, blood vessels, and occasionally muscle to an adjacent. Z-plasty involves incisions of the skin around a scar and a “repositioning” of the scar’s incision line with the bodies natural lines and wrinkles.
