I felt the same about my first car -- a 1967 Ford Galaxie 500. My father bought it new and he and I took great care of it when I was a kid. He gave it to me when I went off to college and I have taken as good care of it as I could since. It's still running fine and I recently used it for a 2000-mile trip, without any problems. Parts, and even fluids, are becoming hard to get for it, so, a couple of years ago I bought a new Ford (they call it a Crown Victoria, but it's really the same car with a few electronic gadgets added) for everyday use. It's easier to drive, has air conditioning, and can play my CD's, so I use it most of the time, but I keep the '67 ready to go at all times and take her out for a Sunday drive once in a while. With this reduced use, I expect the car to outlast me.

If you continue to maintain it, it should last you a long time. As long as the body remains rust free, you do proper maintenance on it, and stop racing her, you should be able to get 230,000 out of the motor before it will need to be gone through. she's getting to the age where she should look good, but not raced unless really provoked. I'm not saying it's time to make her a trailer queen. I'm saying it's time for her to settle down and enjoy retirement. Sounds like your on the right track for making it last a long time. My rule of thumb is, a paid for car is cheaper then a loan on a car. Start taking 100 or 150 a check out and putting it in to a car fund. Consider this your car payment. This way if something major happens to the car your pocket book wont hurt so much. Be very proactive in the car. when you start to hear something that does not sound right. Find out what it is and fix it. don't let it go. a friend of mine bought his 66 mustang brand new. It has almost 450,000 miles on it. she still looks new, and runs like it has 30,000 miles. he's keep that car up his whole life. Made some minor modifications (Changed the Drum brakes over to disk, added some better suspension) but for the most part it's still like new. You should be able to get some good life out of it.

Check with some other Stang owners. Try stangnet.com or another web site for Mustang people. As others have said, it all depends on how well you've kept up the maintenance. Oil changes and filters are paramount in keeping the car alive.

I know of an 88 Mustang GT that has over 450,000 miles on the original motor and transmission. He maintains it VERY well, and does not 'hot rod' it around. My 87 has a bit under 90 thousand on it. Just treat her right and keep the maintenance up on your 'stang, and she'll last a while.

a car will last as long as the owner takes care of it and isnt running the balls out of it. i have a ford coupe zx2 escort bought it with 66,000 it now has 145,000 its been the most reliable car ive ever owned. sure i replaced the PCV vavle brakes water pump, and belts .with the most expensive being the brakes 315 bucks for all four tires and all that was strecthed out far apart of time from each other. Ford makes a great car dont let anyone tell you different. its all how you take care of it . good luck

how well do you maintiain it? how do you drive it? there is no definite, finite number of miles a car can get. my 71 volkswagen superbeetle has well over 350K and still runs strong. most of that is in the maintenance. have a ford certified tech (not a mechanic, those are at independant shops) at a dealership look at your car. tell them you want a diagnostic prior to doing the upgrades you plan. will cost a little, maybe save you a lot.

hope this helps!

My 86 capri has 180,000 miles 5.0 litre all i did was a new timing chain and some used E7 heads (better breathing heads). Big intake and some other mods. It has been damn reliable for almost 2 years now and its been strong on power.

I've actually heard from a lot of sources that Mustangs are really reliable cars. Mustangs have also been my favorite car my whole life.

Just floor it if that's what you bought it for. Why else would you ask? **** it if it breaks then buy better parts I drive mine like it's not mine and believe me there's more fun in having fun than driving around wishing

FORD, found on road dead. Naw, I'm sorry. Are you driving it normal, or beating it to death? Keeping up on the oil changes, and all? I bet you could get another 100,000 or more, if you aren't beating it to death.
