I have a rash on my arm. I've recently been in some places where there was poison sumac, as well as some places with poison ivy. I'm pretty sure it's one of them, but how do I know which one?

As a chronic suffer of plants from the genus Toxicodendron (Poison Ivy, sumac, and oak) I can tell you its very difficult to which plant caused your rash solely from the type of rash you have.

However, if you are looking at the plant its very easy to tell which one is which. Poison Ivy has three leaflets whereas Poison Sumac has 7-13 leaflets.

I don't think it makes much difference at this time; the forensics are tricky. You just should treat your rash.
