Ive heard that a clean golf ball goes 3yards farther than a dirty scuffed-up golf ball. Is it true?

It probably depends on the amount of dirt, but it makes sense logically. The golf ball flies as the air passes evenly over its dimples. Anything that makes the air flow irregular will restrict the flight of the ball. So a slight effect is only natural.

It surely should go further, don't know about three yards. Says if there's dirt between the ball and the club face at impact, it absorb lots of energy and your ball won't go far, depending on the amount of dirt. Also the dirt that strick to the ball makes it fly left and right depending on the side of the ball it sticks to. Don't worry too much, because you can't lift and clean your ball for all the shots.

not nearly as much as you might think. the whack you put on the ball makes so much more difference from one swing to another. not comparable. so wash your golf balls and all that for psychological comfort but work on your stroke if you want to really loft the ball and send it flying. you don't need to study physics to realize that is the truth.
