dial up,,my question is can i drop 1 phone line and get some kind of call announcement program ,,,,all i can find are pay monthly,,about what the phone line cost,,what i need to do is save a few dollars and still stay on line and get calls
i live in the sticks ,,dial up is my best option at the present time

Your internal modem should have an option to have you alerted to calls while online.
This is your best bet. If you pay the extra couple of dollars for caller ID, it should also display who is calling so you can decide if they are worth disconnecting your connection for.

consider this.
2 phone lines about $40-$50/month
long distance charges
call waiting charges, etc. etc.
low speed internet.

1 high speed line $24.95 to $45/month
VOIP all included service $13 - $25/month
high speed internet.

do the math.

otherwise, check with you provide to see if they support V.92 internet on hold. when the phone rings and you answer, the internet goes on hold for a short time. If you talk too long the connection is dropped.

look man i live in the stixs two and you could drop one phone line and pay the same amount a month for satellite internet i just went to sat internet it is great you are fast always on and the best thing is it is only 60 a month for 720 kbps download and 128 kbps upload so here is what i reccomend go to google and look up hughesnet they are very fast and availible anywhere in the united states well i hope this helps

if you're on dial up then you can't get call waiting. DSL is what you need... you can be on one line with both. on the computer and on the phone at the same time.
